Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is a set/sampling from yesterday's shoot - eighteen-month old Karmen atop her tricycle. I've chosen looser poses than my other recent shoots (no headshots) and a brighter and less colourful style of processing too. The mum is a fellow photographer and wanted something different than the norm for this.

On the images, #2 is soft, but the girl's pose fit the set so I included it. The rest look soft too for all that I've taken steps to sharpen them more extensively.

    Opinions?

in the oof areas i think ya can see the sharpening effecting it... maybe some selective sharpening round the subject could fix that? i like the softness, especially with the colours, looks very 70s faded shots.

i like the idea, the natural posing and how the kid is isolated from the background but, ur focus point seems to be the front of the tricycle and would work better if focused on the kids face to capture the eyes and facial expressions sharp, just imho.

I get what you are aiming for here, I dont understand why you want them so soft though, they would be much better with more sharpness.

I spent a few months focusing only on children and it is a hard job keeping the kids entertained and interested, partly why I mainly do weddings now;) but there doesnt seem to be any interaction with the camera here in any but one of the shots.

I find the most important thing to do with a child is get eye contact, even if the child is not smiling it makes the image so much better and makes you stand out from all the other who will leave the parents to entertain and just take the shot.

I always ask the parents to stand over my head, maybe rattle something if necessary that way if the child is looking at the parent for guidance they are still looking in the direction of the camera.

I hope that helps. I love the finish just not the softness.

Hmmph. I'm trying to figure out why they look so soft online. I just reviewed them with the client at full-size and they looked just fine. :[
