    agree with u tho.

l've lumped on glasgow -16 tonight
dont feel as confident as l did in the bookies now tho :o

Connachts recent away form hasn't been that bad. They were pretty unlucky to not get more out of the games against the O's and Leinster. The Scarlets might be lacking motivation as they have nothing to play for and are coming off the back of a beating.

Sale Sharks v Newcastle - I've gone with Sharks by more than 7, and I've gone with Glasgow by more than 17 that should guarantee a Leinster win. :D

Another narrow escape - 85 minutes gone (Glasgow winning by exactly 17) and Dan Parks, with a beautiful cross field kick, sets up the third Glasgow try and PP lose. I lost on the Sale game but survive to fight another day.

toulon -6 10/11 with william hill will be my main bet this weekend.
l think connacht are being a bit over rated lately .

I will be going with Toulon as well and not just because of Jonno. :D

A Toulouse/Toulon/Munster treble is available at 9/4 with PP. Think I'll have a score on that for my Rugby bet this weekend.

you can get Munster, chelsea and Cork in the hurling at 11/2 with paddypower at about 11/2

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭wixfjord

Biarritz at 11/8 with totesport looks way too big to pass on for me.
Ngwenya @ 2 and de villiers @ 11/4 also look good for anytime tryscorers. Ngwenya will skin hurley if he's up against him one on one.

I took Biarritz -8.5 @ 7/2 due to rumour of Warwick not travelling to San Sebastian.

Now it seems it was a rumour, nothing more. Oops.

No money - no bets but I'm still gutted - this was worse than three in a row by Leinster but I suppose it will make eventual triumph all the more sweet! When we, Munster/Ireland, finally win something worthwhile I'm on the beer for a month.:(

Cardiff to win the whole thing at 20/1 seems like a decent punt. They're on a good roll and have a great shot of turning over Munster at the weekend methinks. If they're away to Leinster I can't see them winning that, but defo seems worth a tenner.

Longer odds than they deserve alright but can't see them winning it, especially with the Amlin final against Toulon the week before the Magners Grand Final.

I've gone for Ospreys @ 16/5 to win the Magners on Betfair, PP only offering 5/2.

anybody have a opinion on the leinster game?
    14 points is the h/cap

Hard to call, Leinster on form should run away with it but they aren't so I'll be keeping my money for Guinness. :D

    C'MON MUNSTER & LEINSTER!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

    I put two doubles on - 10er each - Leinster 6-10 on both, and Blues/Munster 1-10. quite a nice day out :)

Heineken Cup Final: Toulouse v Biarritz Saturday 22nd May - Anybody think Biarritz have any realistic chance of upsetting the apple cart? Personally I can't see it and I reckon that Toulouse will tear them a new one and will probably have a sizeable punt on them to win @ 1/3.

Of course, the real match of the weekend is the Amlin Cup Final on Sunday at 2pm with Jonny Wilkinson's Toulon serious favourites to beat Cardiff Blues preview here: http://www.scrum.com/europeanchallenge/rugby/story/115899.html

I fancy Jonny Toulon to win @ 4/9 and I think I will be going for another sizeable bet here. :D

Just had a bet on Paddy Power - Toulouse to beat Biarritz and Inter to beat Bayern in the Champions League final @ 2/1. Pretty good odd IMO

So who is the money on this weekend??
I was thinking Leinster, Barbarians and Clermont @ 3/1 with paddypower.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Baa Baa's games are always dodgy, you can get anykind of a result.

It's a very weakened England team though.

Im going for Leinster Clermont and Sarries. 10 returns around 63 or something I think. Really think sarries at 7/5 is crazy value. The whole Venter scenario will really galvanise them, theyve guys like Jackson De Kock Marshall at half back to run the show, and forwards like Borthwick Brits etc, and the front row to combat Leicester. Of the other two, think Leinster are dodgy a bit, but think Clermont will beat Perpignan to finally break the duck.

On the BaBas game, as Thomond said, I wouldnt back on what is essentially a friendly myself, but that is some Ba Bas team, and with Charlie Hodgson at fh for england wouldnt be expecting much from them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,549 ✭✭✭✭Judgement Day

England v Barbarians - as Thomond says anything can happen but England to win by more than 3 points @ 15/8 is just too tempting for me. Only a small splurge after some recent disasters. :D

    Howdy folks,

To cut it short, I do much better on season long betting than betting on specific matches on the weekend. I just feel you can get much better odds, and furthermore you can spread bet to guarantee some sort of win if your teams are going well. Plus some bookies can be be real disparate and get it horribly wrong pre-season. Put simple, it has been much more profitable for me to bet on teams in the H cup, magners league, six nations in July, August, etc. than match betting (well, I've no doubt I'm down on weekend match betting overall tbh).

With this in mind, I'm already looking ahead to next season (a bit pre-mature I know!). Anyway, being a world cup year, I'm very weary as to what to bet on, and am thus looking to some of the 'lesser lights'. Anyway, here is what I've come up with so far:

Cardiff for the H-cup: have made some smashing signings, seem to be holding on to Rush, really like the age profile of their squad - especially with young players increasing their experience to match their natural talent levels, they'll have buoyed confidence from their Amlin win and finally they are a first seed, which should help what group they find themselves in.

Ulster for the magners: really like the look of the signings of Muller and Pienaar, they won't be restricted with the loss of many Irish/international players (as munster, leinster, ospreys, etc.) will, might make another big signing as Rush doesn't seem to be on his way, their young guns didn't perform as well as I expected this season but next year I think they will and finally, the coaching staff should have found their feet by now so the squad so be pretty cohesive. If they can sort their erratic form, they could be very dangerous. Scarlets could be dangerous if they get their act together too (could be HUGE odds, they lost so many marginal games this year)

Bath for the premiership and the h-cup (not as a double): after an injury ravaged early season, their form was phenomenal there-on-after. It showed just how good their first 22 and coaching staff are. Furthermore, with signings such as Vesty, Moody and Taylor (who suit their style of play) and many potential others (given the fact a new wealthy backer is on board and many lesser players left, thus creating squad places) they could have a very strong, big squad, something they lacked this season. Furthermore, they've added some ruggedness to their panache, something that has been missing in recent years, partially thanks to Watson and hopefully Moody too.

Toulon for the H-cup: Carl Hayman. Carl Hayman. Carl Hayman. They've signed some proven, classy players like Sackey too. I felt they made both good and bad signings last season, but this year it looks like they're going for proven quality. They'll be hurting after a trophy-less season, after coming so close. A big issue is the ability of the squad to gel, but Saint-Andre seems well capable of this. I put them down as I'm hoping they'll be relatively big odds. Racing Metro cold be in the same boat. And Clermont could be dangerous too, given the fact that they won 'who know what that previously couldn't be named' and thus might give Europe a serious belter.

Again, I don't think these teams will necessarily win, but if I get them at big odds I can just spread bet.

I'd love to hear what you guys think! Especially Judgement Day - seems like a wiley character.

    Best of luck,

    WoL

20/1 for Ireland to win the JWC (paddypower)

Have they a realistic chance of challenging for the title, seems like a decent bet from what I saw in spring.

I've watched the last few of these. It's just very hard for Irish teams to compete against the junior All Blacks because there is such a massive physical difference. It's virtually a men against boys scenario.

Any thoughts on the Baa Baas match? Their performance against England wouldn't inspire you to put the house on them to win and there is a more cohesive look to the Irish side. That said there is some serious talent on the Baa Baa's team and they won't want to lose two in a row. Against that there are the aspiring Ireland first team players with something to prove and it's at home.

Hi WoL - thanks for the compliment but I don't think 'wiley' accurately describes me as I have made a good few wrong calls this year. It took me too long to realise that I was betting against Paddy Power and that it wasn't being disloyal to bet against the teams I support when I knew they were going to lose. I took a massive hit in the 2008/09 HC semi-final for this reason. Once I got that out of my system things improved somewhat.

I like betting from match to match rather than trying to guess who's going to win say the Championship or the World Cup - I mean at the start of the seson I put a few quid on Brive (!) to win the French Top 14 this year ffs. Having said that I'm going to have a few early punts on the 2011 World Cup - aside from the obvious All Blacks, and the French, I fancy England @ 14/1. How mad is that?

As for the Heineken Cup/Magners League I wouldn't dream of having a bet at this stage - too much rugby to be played before then - who will still be walking? I like to get a feel for how things are going before I launch into betting. I like betting on try scorers, half time points and things like that. On principal I won't bet on yellow and red cards as I hate dangerous play.

Have you tried live cricket betting? Really exciting - you can lose your money in the time it takes you to type your bet into Paddy Power but on the right day you can be on a good thing. I played the game for some years and once you start watching it regularly you just instinctively know the way the game is going - nothing Paddy Power can do to account for accurate gut feelings or the weather. Sorry for digressing. :D

    Barbarians v Ireland
Finally having severely wrestling with myself I have gone with Ireland to win this encounter by more than 3 @ 7/4 and by more than 6 @ 12/5.
    Horgan to score a try @ 7/5; Kearney a try @ 13/8 and Trimble a try @ 7/5.
Lets just hope that everybody comes through the game without picking up any injuries.

Yeah I see you like your weekend betting. I completely understand your reasoning to do, its just its a very expensive past time for me!

England for the WC, I've heard crazier things... As long as you bet each way I can see your reasoning. They potentially have a very good first XV. What do you think about the bets I suggested? Or too premature in your opinion?

Cricket? I know nothing about the sport to be honest. I used to bet on anything going, but now I keep it to rugby and poker. Do tempt to digress from these! I can just see myself farting away afternoons shouting at the TV screen about a sport I know feck all about!
