Post grad module for C++ @ DCU Q

Hi guys

I am doing a post grad in the electronics area, VLSI design, HDL programming etc but also want to chuck in a good dose of C++ into my studies, which the course doesn't have.

I have found out that DCU got individual modules, albeit at over 800e a shot, that I can study remotely.

Considering I have not done C++ before, apart from some basics, would this be a step too much, bearing in mind I will have a full on Masters with 10 modules to contend with.

Actually, I don't know if this has more Java than C, but thats another thing...

Module Aims
Object Oriented Programming is a software methodology that is commonly being used in the workplace. This module will allow the student to gain experience in the C++ and Java programming languages from an engineering point of view.

If its the Object Oriented Programming module from the Masters in Electronic systems it is very good....

But I would only consider doing it if you can attend the lectures, the lecture is excellent and the notes/material very good... I would say it would be quite difficult if you could not attend class, but very do-able if you could...

Didn't know it was €800/module :eek:
Going back 3 years ago the masters was costing €1500 for the 8 modules

I most likely will have to study remotely, I am on the verge of doing the HDip [or MEng, pending on results] in Microelectronic design @ UCC.

The lady @ DCU said individual modules are NOT supported by the NDF, so have to cough up a fee of over 800e a modules se said.

Also you will get no award obviously, just for your own benefit as such. The course at UCC has no C++, mainly hardware design, VLSI, HDL, etc.

I need to select a module soon, decisions decisions...

maybe I would be better off getting a good book, or doing some on lime course...?

OP I would have thought a certification of some sort would be the best idea.

how does one get certification for c++, can you do a course like A+ etc...?

If i did the one at DCU on line, I would have scant reward or nothing to show for my efforts after, I would probably get a statement saying I done the module but thats about it.

Perhaps you could get a cert in Java or c#. Similar syntax. Not exactly the same though. Or you could do some of these http://www.brainbench.com/xml/bb/common/testcenter/keyword.xml
