Anybody see what happened in Airside last night around 5:40pm? Armed Gardai busted a drug deal and recoverd 36kg of cannabis.

Apparently an accountant from a leading bank was arrested too!

The thought has occurred to me more than once after reading crime novels and hearin about seizures in our lovely capital for many a year that if you were a hungry ambitious new detective you could do a lot worse than watch shopping centre and pub car parks for deals going down. They never seem to change their way of doing business the mules and low end dealers.

If only it was legal and the government could make tax off that haul.

36 kilograms of cannabis is quite a large haul, and going by the rate of price per gram in Amsterdam: which is 8 or 9 euro, you are talking a lot of tax.

    The numbers are: 8 euro x 1000gms = €8000

    And €8000 x 36 = €288000

And the rate of VAT(which I think is 21%) = €60480. Straight into the governments coffers.

And the government are looking for a way out of a recession?

"Hello Father. Did you hear about the whistle being stolen? I never thought I'd see the like. What next? Somebody'll be murdered, and then where are we? Drive-by shootings in the night: it'll be like 'Boyz N The Hood'.

And then we'll have whores selling their wares in the street. And the pimps'll be using crack to keep the whores under control. I'm going home now Father to lock myself in the basement 'til they catch that fella. Goodbye to ya Father."

It was on the news. I suppose it came from the same intelligence unit who busted the haul.
