paths to psychology and courses

just writing on here on behalf of my boyfriend,

he recently completed a PGDE and found that he had a very keen interest in Psychology, a subject he had not studied much of before, he now feels that he may return to college (perhaps UCC to do the conversion HDIP) to fulfill a degree in psychology, but as the deadline has passed now to enter this course part time or full time, he is considering ways to gain more knowledge in this field before applying for next year?
    just wondering...

    1. as he is new to the subject he isnt sure what area he wants to persue exactly after completing the conversion HDIP, but perhaps counciling or educational, any suggestions on relevent experience he could try for this year?

    2. he was looking at the two courses provided by Griffith, cert in child psychology or practical psychology, any advice on whether these courses are worth while?

    3. is the HDIP conversion course hard to get into? he has an honours BA degree, honours masters and honours PGDE?

    thanks for any replies :)

If he has never worked in the field of psychology, any experience will stand to him and help him clarify his ideas about what he'd like to specialise in.

I've no idea how hard it is to get into the conversion Dip - maybe some other boardsies can help out.

Both the PSI (Psychological Society of Ireland) and the BPS (British Psychological Society) have a lot of useful info on their websites that he'd find useful.
