I've accepted and even registered for Science in NUIG, but now ive been offered a place at University of Ulster coleraine doing Biology.
The only reason i'm intrested in science in Nuig is getting a degree in Microbiology, but i have to do physics and chemistry in 1st year in galway whereas in coleraine i just do pure biology. So am I just doing unnessesary subjects by going to NUIG?

But would a degree from nuig provide more oppertunties after the degree than coleraine. At the the moment im looking into biology teaching, which i could do with both degrees, but would like more job oppertunities and think microbiology would have more than just biology.

Awh I just don't know what to do, have to make my mind up sharpess I'm due to start Nuig in about 10 days.

So what do you think? any comment but be appreciated and specially from people who have done either course. I know it's me whos has to make the final decision but would just like your thoughts.
    Thanks.

If you are interested in teaching do remember you need to be able to present as many teaching subjects as possible especially for second level teaching.

Most schools employ Science graduates who can teach Science to Junior Cert and then Physics, Chemistry and Biology to Leaving Cert. Many Science teachers also offer Maths as a teaching subject - depending on the subjects they select for their degree and where they complete their degree.

By restricting yourself to a defined single subject degree you are restricting your options later in your career. In order to teach you will have to complete a Teaching qualification eg HDip. All teachers must be registered with the Teaching Council in order to be eligible to teach. Double check with them on what you can teach with the options that available to you in NUIGalway and UU.

Also remember the quality of your degree eg results is very important. You can always specialise after your degree by completing a postgraduate or masters course.
