    Hey all,

I am the holder of a BSc in Computer Science and I am very interested in changing my field to Archaeology. I am trying to find out if I would need to start my studies at undergraduate level to work in Archaeology or would I be able to undertake some postgraduate study because of my graduate degree.
I am hopeful that my computing knowledge could be transferred over and be helpful to a career in Archaeology.

I'm willing to start from the beginning, undergrad and work my way if thats what it takes.

I also would like to pursue this to postgraduate level.

    Any advice is very appreciated.

UCC offers a higher diploma in Archaeology which serves as a conversion course from graduates of other non cognate degrees. Usually upon completion with (sufficient grades) you could go on to pursue masters in Archaeology. Its a intense course and your lectures are shared with classes of Second and third year BA students. NUI Galaway and UCD offer similar programmes.

Computers are increasingly important in archaeology, for instance in the UK there are now Masters Courses in GIS and Spatial Analysis in Archaeology.

Their are several older threads on boards.ie warning people about pursuing a career in archaeology. I would recommend you to read them careful before making any decisions. Best of luck.

That sounds like what I'm after, cheers.

Its a global problem but their will always be exceptions in some areas.
