Do you have to send in letter saying you have registered for college to VEC?

I was nearly sure for some reason or another I had to send in a letter from my college when I register saying that I have registered and am commencing the course for the maintenace grant? But now that I look it up again I see no mention of it.

I know you have to do this on the BTEA for the social welfare but do you have to send the VEC a letter for the maintenance grant stating this too?

It seems you get the grant money from the college who has your bank details upon registering and not directly from the VEC? So I would have tought they'll know anyhow that youve registered when they get in contact with the college to pass the money on?

Can anyone clear things up for me

Not quite sure if this is what you mean, For the maintenance grant only i know if you're going into your 2nd and following years ,first you send in your renewal form with bank details to the CoCo, they send you back a letter that the college has to stamp stating that you're registered, if that go's okay, a cheque from the CoCo will be sent to your bank account 3 times a year. As an aside, i notice that the CoCos are asking on the form if you have any other assistance (perhaps BTEA?) never noticed that before, wonder has it anything to do with the Carty view that students should get only one or the other, not both.

Yeah I noticed that when filling out the form they asked this, I'd say most people said no because very few people would have applied for BTEA before handing in the grant form

Thanks for the feedback, im applying to a VEC and not a CoCo because im doing a level 6 course TLT scheme and not an honours degree with higher education scheme. I know the college sends the money every month directly into students bank accounts on behalf of the VEC thoughtout the year. The CoCo on the other hand sends you three cheques through the year instead yeah.

Though what i was wondering for a first year student registering, is there a need to send the vec a letter from the college stating youve registered, or will the payments still go ahead anyway since the college processes the payments and obviously they know ive registered.

    Thanks

Edit: Also with the btea yeah i seen they ask have you applied for it on the app form. Right now it doesnt matter if you get both as they have no effect on each other, but maybe after the budget you might be only able to go with one so thats probably why.
