Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Argentina are worse the Cypriots for set pieces.

But manmarking is a simpler system. Liverpool don't concede many from set pieces because they defend well, not from the inherent goodness of the system. And yes, it is systematically flawed. As Ivanovic and Zat Knight showed, if you fizz the ball in and attack the near post, there is joy there. It's an inherent flaw in the zonal system, there is space guaranteed because of how players will be layed out in the box. At least if you manmark, nobody can get confused, or blame anything on the system. Look, it's a personal preference anyway, I don't like zonal marking myself, but we won't come to agreement, so let's just stick to the game I say.

Can Argentina get back in this? They look so very paniced. As well, we might complain about Trap and his negativity and not doing the most he can to bring players back and so forth, but at least he has a clue. Maradona is their Stan.

It's not systematically flawed, if it was liverpool would concede from every single set piece. The reason Liverpool concede is because players make mistakes, excactly the same reason they do in a man marking system.

I'd love to see someone do some systematic look at that. Currently I think everyone has there own preference and just a giant example of confirmation bias.
Shouldn't be too hard. I am sure there is some undergrad out there who could justify it.

45 minutes until Maradona becomes manager of Newcastle United........ It could happen. Stranger things have happened.

Argentina are still in this. They are good going forward and if it wasn't for some great keeping they could have had a goal. Brazil probably could easily finish them off though.

There's is zero chance that Argentina will win this 3-2. Even Messi looks useless in this team.

Right, I'll be back at full time, here's hoping it's as good as first half.

Just joining now, but luckily Trevor Francis helped me get into the game with this nugget of insight:

"I think, really think if Argentina get a goal back, they're in the game"

With the way they're playing, 1 goal wouldn't be anywhere near enough.

Honestly what in the name of god made anyone think Maradona was management material?

The fact he is God in Argentina means he had to get it eventually.

Tevez starting means I think Brazil will win. Argentina would take it if they played Higuain instead.
They would win even if Messi was playing.

    Ooops.

Argentina having a great spell of possession. Should've been a corner there. I'd love to see an Argentina goal now. Would make things very very interesting.

They've too much quality not too, I don't think this game is over, Argentina have goals in them, but the whole campaigns been a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

Defensively, Argentina have the backline of a Championship team, if Dunga wants to humiliate Argentina, he'll never get a better chance.
