Hey, I'm a fresher who's got international relations out here in DCU, but I still haven't heard of anyone else who got it!
    Message here if you did!

We only have 9 hours of class a week by the way (2nd year here). You'll enjoy it if you like global politics.

Some of the lecturers are terrible though, be prepared to learn on your own

    Alright bucko,

Im an IR student myself, albeit a year ahead of you, but when picking the optional modules, you can only pick from the one stream,

Although the registration will allow you pick from different streams for each semester, you must correct this as soon as possible, as a fee of something like €80 is applied after the change of module period.

You have to choose both intercultural modules, or both American modules, you cannot choose one of each. I done this by accident in first year, but luckily realised during the COM period, thus saving myself a lot of bother

I went for Ab-Initio Spanish 1 & 2. Found myself a bit confused when registering, they really don't make it too clear that you must choose from only one stream.

Leif_Erikson, thanks for pointing that out I had made a similar mistake. Any other tips for 1st years. I was talking to someone in registry the other day and they said to find out from 2nd years what years are actually worth buying etc so any tips?

    :) I'm IR3 now. (Final year! >_<)! You'll love it, it's an amazing course.

The lack of lecture hours leaves you with an insane amount of time for reading up on topics of interest as well as socialising around campus.

I'm guessing by 'years to buy' you meant books? There's very little you'll need to buy. For the most part you get by with library copies or borrowing.

I'm not sure if its still recommended, but if anyone says to get the Globalisation of World Politics by Baylis and Smith, get it. Its like the IR bible, tbh.

    Cheers for the tip!
