Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Second half has been pretty open, both sides have missed great chances.

    Edit: 1-0 Scotland!

    Scotland are so sh1t.

Scotland are pretty poor - midfield doesn't retain possession and nothing happens between the front 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,680 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

holland are going to destroy this Scotland side

Well some of it does apply to ireland alright but I'll reserve judgement on tonights game until i actually watch the game :P

Belter of a goal by mcFadden, sets things up nicely for some "glorious failure" against Holland.

Whatever Burley said at half time has obviously had the desired effect...why the hell didnt he say it too them months ago! :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

If they lose against Holland can they still finish 2nd if other results go their way?

2nd place is a posibility, but even if they beat Holland and finish 2nd there is a good chance they will be the 9th placed runners up and miss out on the play offs, i dont think its possible without a win on wednesday

George Burley survives for another few days....

I think he's getting far too much crap considering the injuries and the fact its scotland, not like he should be beating all around him.

Plus i watched that game against norway and they were good until caldwell got sent off. He did make a mistake by not taking off alexander that game though when they went the man down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

England - Slovenia kicking off soon. Almost full strength English team. Should be good for a few goals.

If Norway beat Iceland tonight, then Scotland will be guaranteed NOT to come second if they lose to Holland.

If Norway only draw with Iceland, then the Scots could lose to the Dutch and still come second if Norway and Macedonia draw. In that event though, the Scots would be probably be favourites to be the worst 2nd place team and not qualify, so every point they can get could be vital. And of course with the Dutchies already qualified they may experiment a little.

Latest table for the current 2nd place teams.

    Russia 5- 12
    France 5- 10
    Scotland 7- 10
    Bosnia 5- 9
    Croatia 5- 8
    Hungary 4- 7
    Switzerland 4- 7
    N. Ireland 5- 7
    Ireland 5- 7

I am inclined to agree with you there and I believe that an international manager that has not previously been an international manager deserves two campaigns unless he has been a complete disaster.

What a dive from Rooney to win a penalty

Hey it was a dive. No sh1te need be started. Think we can all agree defender did feck all there. Rooney had his shirt held too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,363 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Rooney pulled the shirt of the other guy then goes down - he dived. Agree with you that it was a dreadful decision by the ref

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 308 ✭✭Tyranax

It wasn't a dive, he wasn't looking to go down. He fell down all right. And may have had a kick at the defender. But it wasn't a dive, let's not be silly.

Scotland did really well earlier on and deserved to win. I thought McFadden's goal was a cracker, tbh. Brown's header was class too.

    Great goal from Defoe.

I'll be amazed if he isn't starting on Wednesday.

    Montenegro 1-0 against Bulgaria.

Surprised no one has mentioned it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,276 ✭✭✭IRISHSPORTSGUY

If, and a big IF Montenegro win I feel we'll definitely finish second. Need to ensure we won't be the worst runners up though.

That doesn't bode well for Portugal does it?

It would be kind of funny if Ronaldo doesn't even get to the WC.

Poland equalised , apparently NI played pretty well and were the better team. impressive when they're away to a tough team

their lucky Hungary lost to sweden or I'd think they'll be gone

Great to see N.Ireland still in with a great shout to qualify. Portugal on the other hand...

    Just seen Kaladze's 2 O.Gs, quality strikes!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,663 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Norn Iron had a couple of great chances to go 2-0 up in the 2nd half, but the Poles nearly won it in the end.

The second place in Scotland's group are a dead cert to miss out, especially with Holland coming up for the Scots on Wedesday!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

If Scotland win against Holland, which they can, they should be safe in the playoffs. Northern Ireland's group likely to miss out if Scotland and ourselves get a win.

McFadden is suspended and brown is a big doubt

I just think in these all or nothing games the British teams can win on pure adrenaline, emotion, etc. If there's something to play for in the last 20 minutes I'd fancy them.

I see Danny Fox has declared for Scotland. He's gonna be a quality left back by the looks of him so far at Celtic.
