According to the website blasting is scheduled for this Thursday at Kiltiernan West. Does it mean the issue is solved?

I think there was some blasting done at that site last week the 4th August.

Is it standard practice or did something go wrong during planning and design stages?

Any reason why the OSI have the M18 marked up in detail but not the M17?

    Ouch!

I seriously wish the OS would come up with something better than the "National Primary road under construction" colouring for National Secondary Roads. It looks crap

Or are they sending a message to the NRA?

Is there any chance the section of 'bypass' at Tuam would be opened in advance of the rest of it?

I am guessing there is no central columns or supports. Anyone pass that new interchange that was build by roadbridge on the M6 just after Athlone for the service station lately? I am sure there are no centre piers on that. Too much disruption and safety factors to take into account. Easier to design them out

Took this picture on the way to Dublin last night. Definitely no central supports.

My back garden is facing onto the road\construction in Corofin (Galway!) - I was wondering if they were going to do something with the road to block the sight\noise? Is there a standard practice they have?

You could contact the NRA and ask I guess. The standard practice is sound barriers and/or foliage like the south bound lane of the N18 near Shannon: https://www.google.ie/maps/@52.7220515,-8.8603654,3a,60y,87.05h,78.7t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sFd7SQcJqeVWCBloKXXWVTw!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DFd7SQcJqeVWCBloKXXWVTw%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D100%26h%3D80%26yaw%3D88.336029%26pitch%3D0!7i13312!8i6656

That stuff by Shannon is utter sh1te. A gentle breeze and it falls over. Probably because it's an N road.

This stuff here on the M7 near Daly's cross is the real deal. You can just make out a drive into a rather nice house here on the left. The house is probably only 20 or 30 meters from the barrier.

They have this type of barrier along most of the newer M roads that I have traveled.

I'd wonder about the maintenance of this type of sound barrier? With out damp climate it will be rotten and blowing over in 5 years. The mounds on the M6 near Kinnegad are prob the best

Took some relations from Westport down to Shannon Airport yesterday afternoon. This project can't come soon enough. The amount of time you lose getting around the Galway area is noticeable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 171 ✭✭SucCes09

That would be fine - just wondering if I should start planting trees myself..
I have pinged off the TTI (no more NRA?) to see what they say, but not holding my breath on a response there any time soon...

Did you go via Galway City or Charlestown?

R330 Westport to Partry. Then N84 to Ballinrobe. R334 to Headford then back on to the N84 as far as the Corrandulla turn off. Come out on the N17 just short of Claregalway. Then on to the N18 in the village and kept going on that to the airport. Some transformation when you get on to the m-way at Gort! Trip took 2 hours 30 minutes.

Once the project is complete one could go from Ballinrobe to Kilmaine via the N84 and then the R332 to Tuam I'm guessing and get on the m-way there. Handy that it starts on the western side of Tuam.

Westport >Castlebar>Claremorris >Tuam. Much better roads

Some photos attached showing the progress on the Rathmorrissy Interchange.

The quality is not brilliant, they are screenshots from a video..

Again you might want to check as to what kind of trees and where you can plant (im thinking overhanging branches, health and safety malarkey) you dont want to be told to cut them down in a few years, I know it sounds over cautious but better safe than sorry. If its just bushes/ hedges though youd be grand.

Jesus lad ... the quality is excellent and a lot better than a lot of stuff we see, but no matter what the quality, any pics are always well received as it helps others who don't travel these roads often to see the actual progress being made. :D

Heading into Galway this morning at approx 6.45, I passed a convoy of 6 heavy-loaded, slow-moving trucks carrying massive concrete structures, look like spans for a bridge.

They were in two groups of 3, each with an escorting van with lights, turning on to the N63 towards Lackagh from the N17 at Loughgeorge.

So I guess they were heading for either Annagh or Corofin, but I don't think there are any supporting structures ready for them around there. There is a bridge going over the River Abbert at Annagh so it might be for there?

Perhaps they could also get on to the motorway route at Corofin and make their way slowly further towards Tuam to wherever it may be required?

Grabbed a couple of snaps of them while stopped in traffic.

Good 'ol Whitten Transport, they do all those heavy/long load transport all around the country. They are bridge beams alright, probably from Banagher Concrete. Normally they don't move them unless the site is ready, and they can be lifted straight from the lorries.
