Is that bridge wide enough for future dual tracking? (Ignore the fact that pigs may fly before CIE quote for that again)

If you zoom in it certainly looks like it is. AFAIK all new bridges over rail tracks also have to leave room for future electrification in their height. They may even have to leave room for double tracking though I am not certain of that.

At least IÉ didn't mess them about like they did with some M11 bridges

Does anyone know the dates and times of the upcoming closures?

For some reason, the signs are not in the 80 km/hr section, but out in the 120.

So far, I've seen ADVANCE NOTICE... Motorway closures weekday nights... something something November 23rd, and something about junctions, like maybe j17 to j19.

Presumably that means off at Athenry, down the R348 to the old N6, then into Oranmore. I remember this diversion during a morning commute after an accident, and it backed up all the way from the old N6 to Athenry, but if this is only at night...

    OK, like this:

    http://www.directroutegorttotuam.ie/Newsletter.aspx

Which is a .pdf, which may explain why a Google search can't find it.

Yes it is. Although it looks narrow, if you look closely you can see that the fencing is actually enclosing an empty space on the right. There is plenty of room for two tracks.

Also, lots of landing space for the flying pigs.

Whatever chance there had been of opening Tuam->Athenry before this motorway, there will be absolutely none when it's finished.

If there is any money, it would be more in their line to start on the M20.

Make sense for it to happen. No reason for Galway Limerick and Cork not to be connected by motorway.

More so no sense in Limerick and Galway being linked by motorway/DC and Cork and Limerick being linked by a narrow 2 lane road.

Cork really pulls the short straw when it comes to roads

Not a whole lot happening at the Gort tie-in? Am i not eagle-eyed enough or is this going to be done last? I seem to recall M6 Ballinasloe-Athlone tie-in being completed after everything else. Maybe its following that pattern.

Is the Gort junction not already complete? The motorway is built to about 100 metres passed the junction.

I see one SF councillor imagines the M6/M17/M18 junction will be like the Red Cow!

Too busy to handle a service area

Athenry and Oranmore, bypassed by this traffic for decades to begin with. Nobody goes in there for fuel or food.

One would think they were building a shopping centre by the reaction of some councillors
