Not far off completion - what's interesting is that it appears like the width of the old n6 is going to be maintained - regional roads don't usually include hard shoulders.

Why is the Southern section between Gort and Athenry so SLOW! Tuam to Athenry is visually stunning to walk along as it could be opened in September 2016.

Could the not get a water pump to drain the water away and dig a big trench from All of South Galway out to the Atlantic Ocean?

Problem with south galway is that it's so near sea level. It's just a massive hole that fills with water when the rain comes along.

Did anyone read the Irish Independent about the person who bought a plane in Shannon Airport for E20K? Was supposed to moving the plane by road through all the towns that have been bypassed to Enniscrone in Sligo. Now he's going moving plane by boat along the Atlantic ocean.
Why didn't he just fly the plane up to Sligo airport?

If he pulls this off, it's a clear demonstration of the 'can do' mentality just like the case regarding the construction of Ireland West Airport when the naysayers said it couldn't be done. I love when naysayers are proven wrong...

The result of Can-Do attitude it may be, but Ireland West airport is the silliest white elephant we've ever built in this country.

That is both unfair and untrue, it is an outstanding success without any state support

Shows how little you know. Its one of the best returns on an investment the state has ever had. The airport cost the government pennies to build as most was fundraising, its running is paid for with a departure tax by the passengers and it has generated 100's of millions in tourist revenue and tax for the state all while supporting hundreds of jobs.

A white elephant would be something like the spire in Dublin which almost cost as much as the airport and alone has cost 3 million just to keep clean.

Funny how you turn up whenever Knock Airport in mentioned.

Fact is, it shouldn't have been built, and until a comprehensive report written up on how the money invested in Knock was better spent there than in Dublin, Cork or Shannon I can't agree.

Would the "100's" of Jobs supported by the airport not be largely increased if it was built in somewhere where people actually live, eg Galway?

    Anyway it's fairly OT.

I don't think that an airport with a proper runway for the North West is unreasonable - it was also built at a time when you got around Ireland by goat track, so having air access was even more pertinent (opened 1985 or 1986)...

A community project of great importance to the west of Ireland, built by the people for the people. Canon James Horan was a man in a hurry but he did great service to a forgotten region in the 80s

A white elephant would be something like the spire in Dublin which almost cost as much as the airport and alone has cost 3 million just to keep clean.

A real white elephant would be the railway line between Galway and Ennis - no change out of €100 million for something that carries less people in a week than a single luas train does in a single run.

However I blame spacetweek for starting all this with his "Dublin 4" attitude to Knock - I thought that particular prejudice was dead and buried for at least the past 20 years!
