Great thing about here is no tie in work required that'll disrupt traffic on the mainline bar painting a few lines. Be some job driving north on the M18 and not having to take that tight Gort exit anymore.

Nah probably still about 15 minutes slower and a good deal further after looking it up.
The N4 will be quicker especially with the Castlebaldwin DC upgrade incoming, and the state of the N17 through Co. Sligo.

I'm talking about from Ballymote, Tubbercurry, Curry where you would be in Mayo in ten minutes. If I go to Dublin now I generally go up via frenchpark but it's still going to be quicker that way than going to Galway.

    For sure.

The N5 Ballaghaderreen-Strokestown isn't far from being done either so the M17 won't offer much of an advantage. You'd also be going too far west for it to be of any use.

M17 sorry if it's been discussed before but is the bat bridge actually designed to facilitate bats Movement or because of the design.
Fantastic thread. Don't live any where near it but really enjoying this thread over past few years.

Facilitate movement. Bats use echolocation returns from physical features to navigate. They can't "see" across a wide featureless field, or the valley of a new motorway cutting. The new road presumably truncated an important hedge or tree line they used e.g. between a roost and feeding area. From m17's excellent photos the new bridge includes earth berms for planting over the motorway to fill in the gap in the original hedge...as well as provide accommodation access for locals.

For Mayo people it will depend where you are in the county. I live in south Mayo only 20mins from Tuam so my new route to Dublin will be via the M17/M6. Be a great job when its open.

In fairness, you can't see that sign from the existing road, and will only be able to see it when the Kilmore roundabout fully opens.

You can see it from the road, on the N17 heading towards Claregalway out of Tuam. I saw it myself at the weekend.

If anything, it should be Baile Chláir, so the sign isn't right to begin with.
