What other works have they got to do on M17 beside finishing jersey barrier and lining the road? They might be able to open the entire M17 including Tuam Bypass by the August weekend yet. What a bonus that would be.

And if they do that would be before Clainbridge Oyster festival. So no diverting through the Midlands on that weekend. If it happens....

Good weather here and this could be in for a seriously early opening provided DTTAS stump up the cash! Great work by the boys on the project and of course M17 with the sensational updates.

Would this method have avoided the bog of doom delay on the M7 or was that a level worse than what is M17?

Really taking shape. Just a question M17. Any roadside art on this project. I'm not arty or anything but I'm wondering about landmarks say like the stag on the cork mallow road

The bat bridge is kind of art I suppose.
The tree huggers will be wet over that you'd think.

Facilitate movement. Bats use echolocation returns from physical features to navigate. They can't "see" across a wide featureless field, or the valley of a new motorway cutting. The new road presumably truncated an important hedge or tree line they used e.g. between a roost and feeding area. From m17's excellent photos the new bridge includes earth berms for planting over the motorway to fill in the gap in the original hedge...as well as provide accommodation access for locals.

    Thanks for the explanation.

So the bat-like shape of this precast concrete bridge is art then if the bats will traverse the motorway via the planting pathway over the bat bridge.

Great series of pics of this bat bridge M17!
