Great pics M17. Looks more and more like finished 'product'. Looks like weather has been good up there. Raining down south.

Great work by M17 - haven't been posting here for a while due to chess commitments, but have been following all his updates. Great to see the line painting started on the M17 itself - dare I speculate that this will open before the M18 - let's say...

    N17 Tuam Bypass - June
M17 Tuam to Rathmorrissy - August
M18 Rathmorrissy to Gort - November

    Any bets??? :D

Meant to ask you this when I saw the post earlier in the week with J18 on the M17 signs approaching Rathmorrissey.

Bit odd alright that theyre continuing the M18 junction numbers.

I reckon the Tuam BP will open early but the rest will open in one go (possibly early).

Too much ****ing around at Rathmorrissey for the sake of a month or two.

As for the date, surely June/July for the Tuam BP and summer end for the rest.

I think the junction numbers make sense as the M17 and M18 will be sections of one continuous motorway - I frequently refer to this road as the M17/M18. However, that last sign has a serious omission - the N83 southwards (what the N17 Galway to Tuam will be) is signed, but what about the N83 northwards towards Ballyhaunis? - there's no reference regarding either road or destination. The sign on the Tuam Bypass approaching the Mountpotter Roundabout does refer to both.

Speaking of signs this one is in the wrong place castlelambert to the mountpotter roundabout is 28 kms and milltown is 12kms form the mountpotter roundaboutIMAG3176_zpsk9ugh2wv.jpg

Should probably be around 26km unless they're talking Tuam (North) which would be approximately 30km via Mountpotter - giving that information however would make no sense from Castlelambert.

All distances are calculated to the Main Post Office in the town or city or village.

Road looks great - it appears that even the cat's eyes are done on that stretch. Literally, just the tensile steel wire left to do! :)

Is there a roundabout now at the N83 turnoff? When did work start on this?

The steel rope raises hackles on bikers but it's generally agreed to be safe and cheap so it's frequently used everywhere.
