The only thing holding it back now is the half completed roundabout at the southern end, which they seem to be in no real hurry to finish.

The reason that there not in a hurry,is that the end of the m17 and the start of the tuam bypass is pure bog and they don't want they same thing happening like it did on the m7

Haha few kerbs and tarmac required too! But yea I know what you mean. Really looking forward to this road being finished as I commute from Cork to Donegal every week.

    You've my sympathy!

Thanks! It's not always from Cork, it can be Kerry also, which means I have to endure both Adare and the N20 too!

Anyway, back on topic. Thanks for the info m17. As is always the story, there is usually always a reason for something being done a certain way that isn't obvious at first glance.

Great updates by the way, they should name part of the road after you ;-)

I know the M17/M18 will help things considerably, but do you ever go via Dublin?

Depending on the part of Donegal it could be an alternative to the N20, and the cart track that is the N17 in Co. Sligo.

Pay roughly €9.60 to the government on tolls each way.
    I wouldn't anyway.

Depending on where in Cork I finish work, I would go via Dublin, it's a company vehicle so I don't mind the tolls, but usually if I'm anywhere north of Mallow/Charleville I would go via Galway.

No pics, but the jersey barrier on the M17 near Tuam has now been completed up to the roundabout at Kilmore. There is also some work being done on the approach to the roundabout from the existing N17.

I could easily imagine that roundabout being opened by this day week, unless there are hitches.

So, the exit for Claregalway on the motorway is just "Baile Clair", as thats what the rules state for signs for Gaeltacht towns.

I see the town name is not perfectly in line with the road number, slightly higher than it should be, so half prepared for the inevitable outcry that the commonly use name for the town isnt on the motorway sign, and they can sneak in Claregalway below the Irish version of the town name!

(BTW, do I have a sense of deja vu about this? Did it not come up before about claregalway signage?)
