Where will you meet a level crossing from Oranmore to Kilternan on N18??
Assuming you start in Oranmore village.

****. I forgot the level crossings were south of Kiltiernan.

Bet they'll crack in traffic calming in clarinbridge and kilcolgan and enforce it to slow things down further. I know they are there now , but I 'd say it'll be much more architecture and enforcement

There is planned traffic calming measures for Clarinbridge alright. No plans for Kilcolgan at present.

If I may ask, is there a purpose for those grassy sections you sometimes see in rockcuts like this, or is it an unstable part of the rockcut. Great thread btw and special thanks to m17.

I'd imagine there were fractures within the rock batter here, removed and replaced with fill and topsoil finish. Stands out alright but adds a feature to the cut too. M17 probably has photos where the areas of fill have similar features but here they were replaced with larger open rock details in effort to maintain the batter slopes at locations of excess run off

Think I have access to the photos on the central section showing this. I'll try and post later

Not sure Limerick and Dublin should be in brackets. In fact you need to leave the mainline to get to Galway.

I can't be the only one who translates Baile Chlair as Belclare in their head and not Claregalway?

The terminal destination of National Route 17 is Galway, therefore it would be signed first, regardless of the M6 multiplex.

Limerick requires the use of Route 18 so is signed in brackets. Can be a bit confusing alright.

Another accurate name would be Br? Tr?chta instead of Baile Chl?ir.

Anyone know if the rumours that the Tuam bypass opening next weekend are true?

Any truth to rumours that the pedestrian bridge on the galway side is too low and will need to be rebuilt? If so possibly not.

I'm sure that at least one of the hundreds of people working on the job have a measuring tape.
    Barstool talk doing the rounds.

IMAG3591_zpsnmd9znqo.jpgthose rumours are false there is nothing wrong with the bridge, most of the roadbridge lads are gone to co longford, the are only a handful left to finish of the two roundabouts it will be the August bank holiday weekend before the bypass opens

Thats such a shame that the road will be left sitting there finished for 2 months or more when it is ready to be opened. I was afraid that was going to happen when i saw the big concrete barriers installed at both ends late last week :(
M17, is that your estimate that it will open Aug Bank hol wknd or did the lads on the ground you were talking to indicate that? Is there any chance the whole motorway will be ready by then and all open as one as they are still saying officially?

Always ignore rumours it will be open when it's open, we survived this long without it.

If what we have surmised on this thread before is true, and I think logic dictates that it is, as soon as the bypass and motorway open, the government will have to start paying it back. The government probably wouldn't have budgeted for it opening this early, so I'm guessing they worked out some kind of deal for the early opening of the Tuam bypass itself, and for the rest of the motorway.

As you say, the bypass is finished and could open this weekend, but the consortium is not going to open it without being paid.

With one's tinfoil hat on, you could almost say that having charity events such as the bypass walk and the motorway tractor run, might intice the public to put pressure on their elected representatives to provide funding for earlier openings ... :pac:

Thanks M17. Just thinking surely if they put a bit of spurt on they could have the Tuam bypass and M17 open for August weekend. How much wearing course would they put down on a good day? 300m or even 500m? You're only talk about line painting and signage after that.
