Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gas fire and boiler?

Hello folks. Looking for help and advice about replacing a gas coal-effect fire. I've been advised by repair man that the base plate of the fire is broken and the 'coals' are cracked. Fair enough, but he says we'll have to replace the boiler AND fire. I don't get it, the boiler was only serviced last year and there's nothing wrong with it. Is it not possible to replace just the fire? I should add that the boiler is also linked to the radiators throughout the house.

Any advice would be gratefully received...

You could try googleing the manufactures, get their phone number, then explain your problem to them, they will be able to tell you if they make any thing that can replace the fire you have at the moment, good luck Gary.

+1 I suspect you have one of the fires with the boiler behind it. As gary says google it.

Thanks guys, the problem is I have no idea who the makers are. There doesn't seem to be any manufacturer name on the fire or the boiler. It was in the house when we moved in 4 years ago. Anybody have a rough idea of how much it would cost to replace a boiler and fire? Break it to me gently please...

There should be a data badge on the fire and the boiler, if you can find a serial number then go to heat merchants and they might be able to identify it. To replace it you may have to fit a condensing boiler, which would mean repositioning the boiler and fitting a standard fire, i would get a few quotes and think about a power flush as well( if changing the boiler) Gary

Some UK gas backboilers manufacturers supply new fires to fit existing boilers,

These boilers are of a very dated design and are inefficient, you would be better off fitting a condensing boiler and a modern efficient fire
