Sydney used to have Australia's Wonderland, later renamed Wonderland Sydney, not too far west from Sydney city centre. Wonderland closed in 2004 and in its place has arisen an industrial park.

Old Sydney Town, a historical theme park on the Old Pacific Highway north of Sydney, closed in January 2003.

A movie-themed park, Fox Studios Backlot, failed to fire and was subsequently closed.

Only Luna Park on Sydney Harbour is left as a fun park with various rides and stage performances. It has had a chequered history as well, having closed and reopened a few times.
