Anyone know the name of this book?

    I was wondering if anyone can help me. I read this book at school and I cant remeber what it was called and it is driving me crazy. I am begining to think I have dreamt it up!
    The book was about a girl who survived a nuclear bomb and she was living on some farm. The she discovers that there is also a man that has survived but then he gets sick. Once he gets better he turns pretty nasty. I seem to recall him shooting her or at least trying to.
    I hope someone can help :)
