I moved into a newly built house 8 months ago. From day one, everytime a tap is opened, the pump starts running but this is accompanied by a loud "bang" from the pipe-work. At times, after the pump stops, a "tick, tick, tick" sound can be heard quite audibly from the pipes. The sound seesm to come from the pipe running from the tank in the attic to the pump in the attached garage. This is loud enough to keep one awake at night. The original plumber has being back at least 10 times, replaced the pump 4 time with various models and now seems to have given up!! The only respite we had was when he fitted a Lowara pump that started gradually. Unfortunately, the pressure from this dropped progressively until we couldn't use the showers! HELP PLEASE!!!

There is a couple of ways around this including fitting pressure reducing valves and a non return valve. It is easy enough work but not work for a novice.

Can you get another plumber to look at it?

    Is this a pressurised system?

Not too sure - I'm no plumbing expert. There is an open cold water tank in the attic feeding down to the pump in the garage - not sure if that helps.
