    Few questions about it,

    1) Can it be used with a mac to download the course materials...etc?

    2) What programs do you need to be able to use it? Like word, powerpoint and what else?

    It's a website, so it's platform-agnostic. I regularly use it on a Linux netbook. The document types you see on there are up to the lecturers, not a function of Blackboard, but these days it's almost always PDF.

    All UCD PCs have PDF Creator software on them that hooks in to Office; so in the event that your lecturer puts up something you can't read on a machine without Office, you can load it up on a UCD PC and save it to a memory stick as a PDF. Or install OpenOffice.

    NeoOffice is much better than OpenOffice IMO, I've used it since I got my mac and had no issues in comparison to lots of problems with OpenOffice

    Openoffice is substantially faster.

    But i have not used it yet for writing and saving essays.
