Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have a Canon Powershot S3 IS. Its a bit banjaxed now and sometimes it takes a few mins for the image to load on the screen, I can usually only see black when I turn it on.

Also the mic and speaker has gone on it.

is it worth getting fixed? Or should I just buy a new camera?

The cost of repair is likely to be a significant part of the price of a new Bridge Camera. Unless this camera has some sentimental value you will probably be better off replacing it.

Not trying to be anything other than curious here ... but how does a three year old piece of consumer electronics actually acquire 'sentimental value' ? I've had a toaster for about the same amount of time, I wouldn't hesitate to toss it and buy a new one if it broke down ...

I have a fuji A303 I bought on my honeymoon, I think I'd cry if it broke.. Probably wouldn't pay to get it fixed though :pac:

I have a Nikon FTn in storage in Australia. It has sentimental value to me, so I can understand that.

If this camera was a gift from someone it can mean something that can skew the normal economic decisions.

This I can actually appreciate though. It's old, It's a gorgeous machine. The act of getting it in the first place denotes a certain attraction. I have an FE-2 which I'm quite attached to, partly because it got me started back into photography after quite a hiatus (and also kickstarted my nikon GAS but thats another story). I have an F4 which I love for its brute functionality. I have an F100 which I use most often because, frankly, all other things aside, its a vastly superior picture taking machine than the other two. I'm probably attached to it the least though, It's got the afore mentioned toaster status. If a truck ran over it I'd be annoyed but only because of the hassle of trying to find another mint replacement (the one I got was in spotless condition when I bought it).

Well it was bought for me by my partner on a really special holiday we had together. Thats purely the reason for wanting to keep it. I'll see how much it costs though so I'll just wait and see.
