According to Mr Michael Soden . There into all kinds of charity work and giving to deserving causes . Really laughed when I heard it but given the fact that our previous leader called himself a socialist its probably more an indication of the twilight world these people live in .

Look friend..banks only do things to further their own objectives and where there is something in it for them.

They want to be in good standing with the business community so they put on the "Good Corporate citizen" act and are seen to support local/national charities as it supports this objective.

The have no more a social concience than my neighbours cat !.

They are motivated only by greed and avarice and will, without hesitation screw all an sundry to achieve and maximise profits.

This poster has no freekin sympathy for any of them...

Socialism and capitalism are polar opposites alright! Although it does'nt stop capitalists from claiming to be socialists just to further their own agendas. Its called Social Capitalism .

Sure didn't Bertie claim to be a socialist at some stage ?

Guess that's what happens when rich people share their money with him for no reason!

    He did in his arse. I'm sure he was given the same advice as every politician who has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar;
"Just keep quiet, say nothing, keep a low profile and they'll all forget about it"

Hmmm....don't think they will forget about a million greens.....but then wheels within wheels, nods and winks...old favours called in....uh they probably will.

Staff in Banks have a social conscience and clearly because of the money raised year in year out for good causes. Banks in general.... well it's a bit of a grey area to say the least.

No my friend..it's not a grey area..not even a bit of a dark grey one.

Not even a navy one I am sorry to say.....Banks have no social concience and only one colour ......the colour of money.

Nope. The million is of course small fry to the 27.5 Million pension that he decided (for no reason I could guess at) to transfer out of the banks control and entirely under his own in 2007.

Theres been a number of court cases over the years regarding his running of the bank and the somewhat strange relationship between him and its board was common knowledge. Will I be alive to see an explanation of why this wasn't invested by the regulator? It should happen around the same time Ms Jolie decides to dump that Pitt scut for meself, as she's been looking for a man with a fine hairy ass and a bit of a belly on him.

Thanks Nodser - give me a shout when it happens...might set up a little threesome eh ?

Who is keeping the heat on the Mayo man in this one..we really are dependant on the Journos and the media in general on this one.

This one was all over the news for a few days...thought the Mayo man had agreed to pony up the dosh at one stage ?

Company had to be bailed out at taxpayer expense - He gets circa €500 thousand a year pension + a bonus of €1 million - nice one !

Theres no suggestion that he did anything illegal. Therefore there is nothing that can be done.

He did say some months ago that he would pay back the million, but has not done so. Apparently he's seeking some form of agreement before handing it over (no idea what about).

As regards the whole 'Governance' issue and the lending and investment policy of the bank, whilst it should be examined to ensure that theres no repeat, I hold out little chance of any prosecution. I doubt in fact if the legislation even exists to cover it.

No..nothing illegal I grant you....but..and this may appear naive..how does a guy who runs a company like a personal fiefedom playing fast and loose with peoples careers and families.....get bailed out to the tune of billions by the taxpayer...who in turn is screwed to the bone and will continue to be for YEARS to come.

And end up with a million squids BONUS ! AND a pension circa half a million !!

    Huh

    Somebody please explain.....

...because there is no stiff or unavoidable personal penalty for risk taking, or prioritisation of short term profit over more stable long term strategies. Hence the left wing sneering at the idea of the market being some sort of adventure where he who dares wins and others fall by the wayside.

The fact is that he who dares and makes a complete bags of it can walk away quite well off, thanks bunches. Whats needed is some form of extended liability, for board members/executive directors etc to act as a counter to the urge for 'smash and grab' thinking. However, I hold zero hope of this happening, not due to the complexity of the question, but the seemingly lack of will to face up to it.
