I got a call from my brother tonight in Sydney. He's going to Surfers Paradise and there's a very well paid job for me and him there. I have to fly over asap and so 21st September would be a good date to fly. Whether it's Brisbane or Sydney I'm flying to, what would be the cheapest way to sort out a visa and flight?

I've no qualification so it's probably a working holiday visa that I'm getting. I have a friend that went over to Sydney last week for €730 open end return so that's the price I'd be comparing with.

Anyway, I haven't talked to anyone but my brother or researched it all so I'm just opening this thread before I hit the pillow.

    Cheers.

Really depends, might be able to get a cheap last minute flight, but if you have any time try and do some travel on the way. Thailand for example. It wont cost you anything. There are loads of ways to go but you will get the cheaper flights to sydney as there are more routes.

Oh yea, get a WHV yourself. Check out the stickys on top.

You wont be able to watch as much soccer though in OZ! Its all Rugby League.

ok I've gone through all the Visa online form and and saved the form before paying so that's sorted once I get my flights booked.

The flight is definitely to Brisbane on or closest to 21st September. I'm best off getting a return but I don't have a clue how to look for a return online. I'm gonna take a stroll into town and shop around but does anyone know of any good deals around atm and what I should be expecting to pay?

btw, has anyone ever had to show them their bank balance?

And I'm sure I'll work something out for the football Jank. ;) Thanks.

I suppose Trailfinders, Usit and Sayit and the places to price first. Maybe a RTW ticket might be an option. Or maybe one way via Air Asia. London ->KL->Sydney
They are cheap but might be a bit late now though to get a good deal.

The online return prices seem to expensive. €662 with Etihad is the best one way I can find. I'll book that if I don't come across anything else.

It is very short notice so you may not find any better. But do ask Trailfinders.

Yeh I was onto trailfinders and the guy just checked the prices on the websites of Etihad and 1 other airline.

I went into a couple of agents in town and the cheapest they could find was the Etihad flights. I've gone ahead and booked it and I think there was only 4 seats available to choose from. Hopefully there's no hassle now with the visa.

With last minute bookings you are unlikely to get new cheap deals like you are in europe.

I swear by Etihad. Flew with Malaysia Airlines before and they were alright but Etihad were fantastic. They do a specialised Irish route from Dublin (and Shannon too I think) to Abu Dhabi then onto Brisbane with a very quick one hour refuelling stop in Singapore. At the 11th hour my open return cost me 1100 euro including tax and charges.

You'd defo get it cheaper if you book earlier. With free booze and fantastic in-flight entertainment and service the flight was a dream. I almost didn't want to get off the plane in Brisbane! Economy class felt like first class on any other airline. The legroom was an added bonus for a lanky streak like me :D
