MA in ELT

Hi I have a BSc in Biological Education so I am a science teacher but I have decided to do a MA in English Language teaching. Because I am new to it, any tips, advice or info you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
I have a pretty good standard of English but I would like to improve it further, what can I do to do this?

As someone who has done EFL teacher training, I know a little about this but am no expert. But an MA in ELT strikes me as more an ELT school management/teacher-training qualification aimed at already experienced ELT teachers rather than a teaching qualification per se.

I did mine with the University of Birmingham

You can do it in Bham for one year or part time for nealry three years or a mixture of the both depending on your schedule. Well worth it in my opinion, especially since I am in Asia.

About books anything by Nunan, Richards, Brown or Ellis is pretty good. Scrivener and Harmer are good for an introduction but considered appropiate for certificate or CELTA level, not for an MA.

Let us know what course you are planning to take. I am curious to know what MA courses exist in Ireland because I would like to teach them someday.

Absolutely, but the OP said he was new to this and I thought they'd be good (and light!) background reading.

No I mean ELT (eng. language teaching). My course looks at grammar and linguistics, research methodology and ELT skills. We are also required to do a dissertation and carry out teaching practice.

Can I ask where you are doing it? Haven't seen a MA for ELT around, usually it's TESOL or TEFL that's around.

The interesting part is the ELT skills. I never did anything like that in my MA. But that's a good thing for you since you don't have any experience teaching.
