Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Black and white is an interesting one.

I wonder, if colour film was invented first, would black and white ever be used?

i would say yes but not nearly as much as it is. Colour was invented before techniques like cross processing, selective colouring, desaturation etc, whatever colours are in images we as photographers take, we're always tempted to add, remove and change them

They were trying funny techniques because BW could be plain, boring, with lack of tonal composition and punch. We are all trying to be different, new, remember-able (is that a word)?

BW could be called simpler because you don't have to work with another layer of information called "the colour". That does not mean that you are less skilled to create good BW picture, not to mention that it is easier.

    Memorable, unique ?

Doesn't everyone try to get that killer shot.

I feel that B&W's greatest asset is that it focuses the viewer on the composition/subject of the image, in particular in situations that you
can't really control. Colour can be a huge distraction, one wee bit of red off to one side of a frame can distract greatly from another wise
    great photo.
