hedgehogs as pets?

    hi i was wondering could you ever keep hedge hogs as pets?
    i know about the spikes, what cage, their diet etc.
    but are they legal?
    if they are, where could i get one in co.cork or dublin?
    i live in co. cork but im going to dublin for the weekend

    EDIT:
    the type of hedgehog im keen of getting is the african pygmy

    Its like a dream to me that certain breeds are considered either wild/endangered and therefore illegal to keep. Im not too sure its just I remember reading something about them a while back.

    They're sometomes advertised on donedeal.ie so I presume it's legal to keep them

    I done a bit more googling and its illegal to take them from the wild, the pygmy variety is legal though! Bond and FAYESY the mods here have an african pygmy, pm them if your very interested or they might see this.
