Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Without a doubt. The only world cup and European cup winner to play here too.

    Incorrect ;)

Gordon Banks and Venables played for pats in the 70s.

Sligo had a player who won the European cup with PSV, buggered if i can remember his name. Free ticket to a pats match to 1st person to name him without google :D

Has to be Ndo or Mbazai for me.

Tbh the likes of George Best, Charlton and Venables all played here in the twilight of their careers. Most of them only played a handful of games and did'nt make a big impact in the games they played.

I think we should limit it to the best foreign players who also played well while playing in the league.

    That'd be Johnny Hoeks

You can keep the ticket ;)

For me certainly in the last 10 years it's Hunt or Ndo

    An incident in Athlone.

    I nearly blew a gasket.

Carl van der velden. man he used to break seats at half time. Plus he threw his shirt down on the ground when he was subed on and then subed off in same game.

Sweet left boot to be fair.

Apparently the Bobby Charlton stat re 31 games and 18 goals is in his autobiography. It is still totally wrong.

Your not a real Galway United fan unless you remember Damian Dupuy :pac:

    Whatever happened to him?

I know he went to UCD and scored on his debut against Shels, iirc, in 2005 but I haven't heard anything of him since.

Legend has it we were going to sign him before UCD did at the start of the 2005 season but Devo didn't want him because he said he wouldn't score enough goals.

Hunt, Ndo, Nesovic, Gannon, Kalonas, O'Connor, et al. None of them can touch the legend that is Sparky

Alvin Rouse, terrible goalkeeper but one of the soundest players I ever talked to. Looks like Chris Rock too.
He's not that bad at all, just looks awkward. Fastest player on any team he'll play on as well.

We haven't had a player of his ability in the box since he left.

Not many people will remember him but there was a lad with Drogheda around 2003 called Darren Beasley. Midfielder who played in England and Scotland. He looked a class act in that team (even though Drogheda weren't great at the time) but had to retire because of a back injury I think it was.

Jimmy Johnstone is the list of "greats" that played a few games.
As a Shels fan, I'd go with Rutherford ahead of Ndo.

Sparkys more of a legend, but be realistic, pure ability wise Ndo was far superior. The man went to two world cups and played in the LOI in his twenties, that's not the kind of pedigree we get every year

its got to be AVERY JOHN !!!!

hes been to more world cups than george best

    Bobby Tambling
    Geoff Hurst
    Uwe Seeler
    Raich Carter
    Bobby Charlton
