    Anyone know why?
Saw loads of Gardai around diverting people.

I think there was some sort of accident according to AA roadwatch

    From their site:

The South Quays are closed at Aston Quay following a serious incident; this closure is due to be in place for some time. Diversions are in place via O'Connell St and College Green, where the College Green Bus Corridor has been temporarily suspended. Heavy delays are likely, with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.

Unfortunately it looks like a cyclist has died in this accident:

Another awful tradgedy for at least two families today.

The picture in tonights Evening Herald illustrates it poigniantly.

Notwithstanding the obvious question regarding a multi-axle LGV being at this location during the City Centre Multi-Axle Ban hours,
the picture also illustrates at least one of the major dangers on this VERY dangerous stretch of Quayside.

In the photo one can see the very obvious outward angle of the kerb as the Quay reaches it`s narrowest point just past the Ha`penny Bridge.

We now have a City Council presiding over at least 3 Cycle vs HGV related deaths in recent times with little to show for all the investigation except ambiguous road markings.

On a related topic It`s perhaps worth some of the Safety Agencies undertaking a Driver awareness campaign to ensure that Drivers are extra cautious in the presence of DubCycle users, many of which may be totally unaware of the reality of cycling in Dublins already treacherous environment.

Drivers need to be aware that many of the DubCycle users whilst doubtlessly highly motivated may lack recent exposure to cycling in an urban environment.

In the past two days I have personally witnessed three highly dangerous incidents with DubCycle users, two of which were totally half-witted wrong-way-along-one-way-street scenarios.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

With respect, it's possible to operate such a vehicle within the restricted times if in possession of a valid licence from the City Council.

True Bazzer, which is why I left it as a question, however obvious.

In a sense though the "Truck Ban" sidetracks the basic issue of why our City`s roads and streets remain so perilous for so many differing groups.

A major reason,IMO,is a long runing refusal on the part of Civic Authorities to accept that there are area`s of the City where it is Highly desirable to segregate Pedestrian`s from Wheeled traffic (Including Bicycles).

Some of the nastiest accidents I have come across involved cyclists hitting pedestrians at speed.
The capability of a bicycle to inflict injury is somewhat greater than many might believe particularly if it hits and entangles limbs.

There are places in the City Centre where vehicular traffic really does need to be TOTALLY segregated from pedestrian and cycle.

However It`s not Council Policy to pursue the concept even where a good case can be made for it...which is a great pity I feel.. :(:(
