cheap pc advice

    hi im looking to put together something cheap for a friend budget is crap so it will be b grade were possible and amdx2 im thinking he has case hard drive and dvd/r drive all ide but they will do him . he,s using an old amd system that i upgraded the dvd and hard drive it will just be for surfing and downloading and storing picture,s on he is not a heavy user but would like something with a bit more speed any idea,guys

    Give what he has away to someone needy and get him to buy a nice netbook.

    lol nah he wants a desktop as he has it set up away from the wife and kids lol come on some one help me here iv no clue to these amd chips and boards found the psu and ram is simple mobo prob something with intergrated graphic,s will be fine 4 his needs

    Cheapest speed incrase would usually be memory. Most systems came with a basic amount, so upgrading that usually gives a decent speed increase.

    ye ill trow 2gigs in with the new mobo and cpu but otherwise his old mobo has had its day big time

    Give us detailed specs on everything your mate has at the moment - case, PSU, internals, the lot. We could recycle a fair bit if its been updated and isn't an obsolete type of component. Arguably the most recyclable bit would be the OS if its not 98 etc. ;) In the end you may only need a cheap mobo and CPU to tide it over :D
