Right. I've found the solution to ALL problems on Boards.

This little yolk should be integrated with the "POST" button, what ye reckon??

    Stop e-mail confusion
    before it happens.

When was the last time you interpreted an e-mail the wrong way? Or wondered what got a customer, friend, or colleague so upset – only to discover it was your perceived tone?
    Words are loaded emotional weapons.
ToneCheck™ ensures your tone is clearly communicated and understood before you hit the SEND button. It evaluates words and phrases for the intensity of 8 primary emotions, allowing you to make corrections and adjust the overall tone before you send the wrong message.

I'm calling fake on that picture. I was looking at this earlier, I think it's a big hoax. There's that picture, which looks suspicious, and a pile of pictures of a wrecked yacht, none of the whale ON the boat which you'd suspect there'd be a pile of taken by the same person who take the above or the crew of the yacht.

As regards that picture, the light direction looks different on the whale and the boat, the whale is in front of the sail but there doesn't appear to be any of that water splashing in front of the boat in the pic, and the skipper isn't even reacting to the fact that theres tons of whale about to do a Moby Dick on his boat.

    Shenanigans !

the whale was probably on the boat for no more than a couple of seconds; and the photographer did not necessarily have the reactions of a photojournalist.

    bigger pic:

I was just wondering how one takes a picture such as this. I don't think a thread of its own is needed but I'll leave it up to the mods.

    Link to picture.

I have also came across this today. Some fabulous photos there.

Wow yeah- they are stunning. I wonder what camera/lens he used as the subjects look 'close to the camera' if you know what I mean- they are unusually large looking. The photos also have an unusual look to them, kinda infrared looking but they couldn't be- could they?

Both those are blocked in work, but if the 'Brandt' one is Nick Brandt (B&W animals for the most part ?) then he shoots B&W film in an old pentax 6x7 then scans and does a lot of burning and dodging in post. I don't think he prints optically. The OOF effects he gets are likely from partially disconnecting the lens as he's shooting and tilting it to get a skewed DOF. He has stated before that he does that all in camera, not in post.

-edit- woops, and yes he shoots IR film quite a bit. -edit-

Ya, it is Nick Brandt. I stumpleupon'd it today.
I get extremely close to these very wild animals, often within a few feet of them. I don’t use telephoto lenses. This is because I want to see as much of the sky and landscape as possible--to see the animals within the context of their environment. That way, the photos become as much about the atmosphere of the place as the animals. And being that close to the animals, I get a real sense of intimate connection to them, to the specific animal in front of me. Sometimes a deliberate feeling that they’re almost presenting themselves for a studio portrait.
    That is impressive.
