Saw the stand in the freshers tent. Didn't know they had a society here.
I know the Limerick branch put a lot of pressure on UL's student union.

Are they strongly linked to the Socialist Party and Joe O'Higgins?
What do you guys get up to around UCD?

Yeah they're the youth wing. If you want info on them, you could always talk to one of them in the freshers tent.

    (no, I'm not a member)

Last 2 times at least they have had a stall at the freshers tent. Had a good chat both times, I agree with many but not all of their principles.

Socialist Youth is the Socialist party. Unlike other youth wings Socialist youth is fully integrated into the main party. It was one of the things that drew me to them when I was in UCD.

We usually had weekly meetings on various topics so look out for posters around the place. As well as this SY members would be actively involved in various campaign across UCD such as anti fee's etc.

Is that allowed? During my time as a member of a society committee in UCD I was always under the impression that UCD societies had to be independent of external organisations though they were allowed to affiliate thereof. The reason being that it inhibits organisations which would seek to influence students in the wrong way, eg cults (not making that association here, just for ease of example) from gaining a foothold on campus.

    Open to correction.

Socialist Youth is made up of no more than half a dozen active members on campus. They are active in FEE and other campaigns.

Overall, I've always found them very pleasant and easy to work with.

They're not related to the COIR jr.s handing out pamphlets outside the science building all day yesterday are they?

Anyone interested in starting a party, we'll get our t-shirts made, the only colours available are brown. Our goals are very simple as well; concentrate all of our problems into camps. Anyway interested?

Yep that rings a bell alright. I think you have to register as an official society and so thats why we would have to write The Socialist party society on posters instead of just The Socialist Party.
Similarly I presume thats why they go under Socialist Youth in colleges so they can adhere to university rules to remain 'independent' of extrenal organisations.
I presume its the same for all political groupings on campus.

Nope, the Socialist party has absolutely no connection to Coir.

The SP have absolutely nothing to do with Coir. They pretty much despise them.
