    I am very new on this, can anyone please tell me if they know where I would get a japenese akita pup either for now or in time for Xmas??

    Thanks a mill, i've tried it.. They only seem to be the American ones. Not sure if there is much difference!!

    Contact the Irish kennel club for a list of registered breeders - most good breeders tho will not sell pups at Christmas time - they are a pet for life so you may have to convince a breeder that you are genuine in your quest to find the perfect puppy.

    Follow these basic guidelines to get a genuine breeder & health pups!

    1) You should meet the breeder at their HOME!
    2) You should meet the mother dog & sometimes the father too.
    3) Get any papers when you pick up the dog!
    4) NEVER EVER meet someone in a car park etc - these are puppy farmers! Good breeders are happy to have you in their homes so you can see how the pups are raised & socialised etc.

    Try phoning the japanese akita club and asking if they know of any reputable breeders they can recommend

    You may have some luck with local rescues for an akita puppy so you could always try them too.

    Be wary of some people on done deal who just want to sell puppies and not neccessarily healthy puppies.

    Thanks both of you, I had actually never thought of that about the puppy is for life around Christmas.. Great advice!!
    As for meeting someone in a car park, my friend bought a tea cup a while back & met the seller in a carpark and now the dog is as big as a jack russell.. lesson well learnt there!!
