Dont expect to see any for at least the next 5 years either. All that will be built are ones on the M1 and one on the M4. The rest have been canned.

THats a private job. They agreed to make that junction full access if they could build an unofficial service station. Its not a service station in the traditional sense of the word though, even though it effectively functions as one.

    Is this the famous McDonalds?

Affirmative Danno. McDonalds plus Topaz across from the halting site. Nice!

Where are the service stations: Generally quite close to junctions, owned privately. 24 hour Topaz within 400 metres of M1/N1 J18, Applegreen/Wimpy sitting at M1 J5, Applegreen/Wimpy within 700 metres of M4 J6, Esso right at M4 J7, Topaz within 400 metres of M6 J5...

The sooner the NRA starts signing this *properly* rather than vague "Services" signs with no indication of distance, direction after leaving or opening hours the better. There are 24 hour fuel stops very close to the motorways at all points really, and more than a few places with late hot delis or sit down food areas.

If they could even just get the M7/M8 Mountrath and M6 Athlone MSAs built, it would be great. At least you'd have most of the major routes covered in some shape or form. An outright cancellation of all of them is utterly ridiculous.

Whats even more ridiculous about cancelling them outright now is that they could probably get them built for free if they wanted to. There is interest in building services, and it appears some people still have the cash.

Someone (I don't think its ION themselves) has just opened a new Topaz/Centra branded station on the N2 at Monaghan. Its got a seated restaurant under construction, middling sized parking area, etc. The nearest NRA counter shows an AADT of under 6,000 here! I believe its a completely new development - at the very least if there was a station there it was closed and knocked completely before the new one went in.

Topaz themselves built the nearest we have to a UK-style Services in Dublin Port and rebuilt their station on the N7 at Kill to provide a subset of the services (it has seating and hot food for a lot longer of the day than other stations). Applegreen built another near-Services beside the M1 despite knowing they couldn't sign it.

If they offered access to the motorway for suitably large services with conditions attached I suspect they'd get some interest. Probably not have people racing up to bite their hands off, but they'd get some built.
