Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone know if there is a CD of Mooney's tunes in the National Concert Hall ?

I heard snippets of it, on his show, yesterday (Monday) and sounded very good, I especially liked the version of Two Little Boys - sang by Paul Harrington, I think.

You should check the RTE website. I only just scanned through but if you look a little deeper I'm sure you'll find more info than what I have given you.

    http://www.rte.ie/radio/mooneygoeswild/index.html

Click latest show about half way down on the right side. I scanned through it and heard a bit of the theme from Schindler's list so I pretty sure it's the right one. But can I just say, that it is illegal to download a free audio utility like Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ , and record the audio as it is streaming, so that you can listen to it later. ;)

I would say that a podcast will be released of it later, but it is not up there as of now.. I just checked. Have to say, I dont like many of RTE's presenter, but I like Mooney. He's a sound guy, very funny, honest and down to earth. Not like most of the other overpaid fools like Tubridy...

I was at the Mooney concert. Went with my girlfriend. She loves him and brought me cos I love Shcindlers list , seen it millions of times...hence the name. I have to say that it was good. Girlfriend cried a lot.:( Some very heavy stories on the night. Didn't hear it on radio but he did say that it was going to be on. Does anyone know when?

He did play some snippets of the concert on Tuesday 15/09/09. I wonder if the show is going to be aired as a program on it's own.

I finally got a reply from the Mooney show today.

They hope to air the Mooney tunes show on the Monday of the October bank holiday - but this has yet to be confirmed.

Just after getting listening to the podcast that version of Two Little Boys by Paul Harrington is the best I've ever heard and it has been driving me mad looking for it for the last few days.

Here is the link to the podcast:

By the Way the two little boys song is on at the 1 hr 20 mins mark.
    Enjoy

On the night, during the intro to "Two Little Boys", Mooney all but broke down...it was a very very difficult intro to read and in fact some sections were edited out in the broadcast version.

I have to be honest and say that I've never had much time for Mooney but this showed the non-cynical side of him and raised him significantly in my estimations.

However, the highlight for me was Mia Cooper (leader of the RTE Concert Orchestra) whose rendition of the theme from "Schindler's List" was nothing short of breath-taking. She is a truly gifted and highly talented musician (and by the looks of things, fairly soon to be a mum - best of luck on that "score", Mia).

Am I mistaken in thinking that the Mooney show always tends towards the "bottom of the barrel"? I get the feeling that Mooney(or perhaps his producer, Aonghus McAnally) regard the audience in the same way as Gaybo used to when the subject of mathematics was raised.....ie, total gob****es.

I mean, win a grand of Mooney's Money for telling us which is brighter, day or night...answers to 1850 etc etc etc. I'm well aware that this is a money-making racket for the show....but still...

to give him his credit, they really are catering to the "live at three" audience, not modern urban sophisticates like yourself and myself  And again, credit where it's due - he's good at it. It's a magazine show that has to appeal to a broad church, but the show does have teeth every now and again.

Personally, I'd put mooney on from 9-12, then tubbers till 1, news 1-2, liveline 2-4:30, then drivetime. It's fairly speech heavy, but that's kinda the point of RTE1 imo.

It was good wasn't it - between the intro and the song itself - I shed a few tears.

90% of radio and tv shows have them silly competitions but even if they were hard question's, people would just google for the answer.

I think he forgot the words half way through but it's still a good version.

I always love when they have the Concert Orchestra shows on, they are very competent indeed. But I thought this selection of songs was waaaaaayyy too depressing. I started listening at 3pm but had to switch off before the last two songs, and still I thought even then that the song selection was very very sad.

I've always liked Derek Mooney. He strikes me as one of the more sincere and grounded of the RTE "stars". He's got a sharp sense of humour that Tubridy could use.

the question is only there to prevent the competition being a lottery - instead it is a "game of skill" and the laws are more relaxed. That's why the question is as easy as it is.

On the contrary, I think Mr Tubridy works hard at disguising his real wit....better to not appear too clever, perhaps.

Mooney constants strays into falsetto at the end of his sentences....always makes me imagine that somebody is giving him an electric shock!
