Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Things to do in Lanzarote?

    Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has ever been to Lanzarote and would be able to recomend some things to do over there?

My brother is getting married there in two weeks, and obviously, seen as it's his wedding, I've no real choice but to go over. Kinda dreading it. I'm a horribly fat, milky white, reclusive person, so not really big into the whole holiday-on-a-beach kind of thing.

Plus, there's about 70 of us going, and I'm probably the only non-drinker, so I want to try and get something to do that doesn't involve me sitting around contemplating suicide.

So i just thought I'd throw this up here. I used search and only really got two other threads, mostly discussing places to stay and restaurants to eat at.

I have a DSLR camera that I can just about barely use, so I'll bring that along and see if I can figure it out a bit, and obviously I'll also be attending the wedding, but I reckon I've got a good four or five days to kill.

I'm staying in "The Fariones" hotel, if anyone's familiar with it's location.

Anyone got any ideas at all?

    Cheers :)

haven't been but planning to go, i have been to tenerife and that is a beautiful part of the world and lanzarote is next on the list because it looks the most interesting of the canaries after tenerife

Timanfaya Volcano National Park is supposed to be one of the most amazing places on earth http://www.lanzaroteguidebook.com/holiday-articles/lanzarote-attractions-timanfya-national-park

i did this in tenerife, fun way to spend an hour or so http://www.submarinesafaris.com/index-la.html

    parks http://www.ranchotexaslanzarote.net/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

    lava caves http://www.spain-lanzarote.com/uk/places/los-hervideros.html

    best lookout spot http://www.lanzaroteguidebook.com/article/mirador-del-rio

Timanfaya Volcano National Park is defo worth a view - that will take up say half a day.......

Try to get to one of the markets - although i'm not sure what days they operate on.

Its been years since i was there, but im sure there are loads of sites with info etc - try find an expat site for lanzarote and find out what the expats do in their spare time (if there are any expats there)

Otherwise, get yourself some good books and indulge your literary side!

    Enjoy!

I just came back from there a couple of weeks ago, loved it..

We did a couple of the trips. The South / Short South trip, I really enjoyed, they take you on a camel ride up in the volcanos, then you go on a trip around the Timanfaya park and then wine tasting.. We did the short trip, left at 9am and were back in the resort at around lunch time, well long enough Imo..

We also did the Catamaran trip, I would have really loved it only for I had an upset stomack due to some dodge food the previous night :o .. That one costs around 60 odd quid but you're out there for most of the day and you get lunch and drink provided all day, that's if you go on the adults only one.. I think the family one is slightly cheaper, not sure what you get on that one...

There's lots of other stuff but we were only there for a week so didn't get to do much else.. Definately going to go for the 2 weeks next time..

    Have fun :)

hi i was there a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. We were there for only a week but theres so much to do we could have done with 2 weeks. We rented bikes and cycled by the airport into the capital. We really enjoyed that and it's a nice cycle. We also bought snorkel gear and did that a couple of times. Theres loads of different tours ect to do. Next year we are going to go for longer.

Plenty to do on Lanzarote, you just need to seek out the information sources. Try getting a copy of the Lanzarote Gazette when you arrive (it is a free monthly magazine) with lots of listings of bars, restuarants, etc in it.

For daytime excursions, and other things to do in Lanzarote you can try my All Things Lanzarote site, or just type 'things to do in Lanzarote' into Google.

The Fariones hotel has a really nice reef not far off shore.

Really nice place to try a spot of scuba diving.

If you're lucky, you may see a sea horse, now that would make a great photo.
