Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wood only burning stove

As the 2008 building regs require 10 kWhr/m2/yr renewables contribution to space and/or water heating, I was wondering if there are wood only burning stoves to be got. I'm not talking about pellet stoves here but stoves that can take small logs and other wood but not other types of solid fuel such as coal, turf etc.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mick

Yes, there are wood only stoves available even one that works as a gasifier with glass in the lower door so you can see the inverted flame.

The problem is people will buy them and can't be prevented from using other fuels in them, they didn't qualify for the greener homes scheme for that reason so I'm not sure if they would accepted to comply with new regs.

do you know if wood gasification boilers qualify. just about to build a house and thinking of what to install for the renewables contribution.

A wood gasification boiler will qualify but you do need a lot of space for the buffer tank, boiler and storing the wood.

But if you have the space and are willing to do a little work to load the boiler every day then they are a good option.

thanks for that. do you know which would be the better ones to go for? I saw one at a show that could handle wood and pellets, lit the wood itself and cleaned itself but was something like 16k for boiler and buffer tank. Do you generally have to light the wood yourself or is it quite standard for them to be self lighting?

    Hi,

Most gasifiers are stand alone units which need to lit manually, one of the advantages of the combi units is if heat is required and you are not there to light the boiler they can automatically switch over to pellet to heat the house, a lot of info on a combi on this page <SNIP>

Mod edit: You should play fair here. You have a good forum to post in and we give you a wide berth at times but we wont allow the forum be abused by you posting links to your products.
