Ah I knew it would be only a matter of time before someone climbed aboard their high horse and had a go at the fans.

I have to say I was disgusted when I saw that on the news last night. Was raging something like that had to happen.

Really? I'm not having a pop, just saying in this day and age that seem's very backward, surely they are all grown up enough to shake hand's, especially 2 player's who spent so long in the same team.

After the game fair enough, but maybe thats just me. Its nothing about being grown men, to me its about being a competitor and being focused on beating the other team nothing else. I doubt Gary Neville would have ignored Schmeichel after the game, but until then he is the enemy.

To be honest when I seen one of the United players (I think it was Anderson or Evra) at half time having a laugh and a joke with Tevez coming off the pitch it pissed me off a little. Same as in the tunnel before the game.

As I said maybe its just me, but people will have very different views on this, but saying a player has no class because of something like this is unfair. He may not be showing class to Schmeichel at the time but he is showing a lot of it to the fans.

+1 to the beginning and end of that alan.

I thought it was full time that Ando & Evra were talking to him?
Im all for being friendly at the end of a game, but before hand and during it your going to do everything you can to make sure the other team doesn't win.

People shouldn't read so much into what fans chant at games because collectively, fans tend to be irrational d1ckheads who will take the lowest road possible to get at opposing fans, the fact is nothing is sacred to opposing fans, and all sets of fans are guilty of it from time to time.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say as a Chelsea fan that I don't actually think Ronaldo should have died in the tunnel

Ah they done it at full time which is fair enough, don't mind that as much. Although if we had drawn or lost I wouldn't like them joking around with the opposition.

One of them was definitely having a chat with him at half time and was actually close by when the coin or whatever it was was thrown from the crowd.

It is very true that opposing captains do not shake eachothers hands before a game even if they are good friends. John Terry & Gerrard are examples. However if the hand was offered to Gary Neville I feel it would of showed a little bit of class to accept it.... Schmeichel won an awful lot with United....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,462 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

But he did shake his hand, as he was moving across the tunnel which is the first thing Schmeichel indicated to him.

They were not all pally, but focus before a game 'n all that.

    Class?

FFS, so what if he comes across as having no class.

What does it matter to anyone?

It's just another thing for you to post to get a dig in.

    Class my eye.

He has passion for his club, the club he grew up supporting.

Why, exactly, does anyone care if he has class or not.

Jaysis lads, find something that matters to have a fight about.

Didn't surprise me at all as I said before the match when it was touted City had the better midfield.

I always always side with the players that have been there and done it, not with players that have the potential to do it.

Before the game some people were saying City could be stronger in the centre mid, especially since they would have 3 to United's 2. You said you expected United to get the better of it because whatever pair was chosen would have been there and done it already. Anderson hasn't been there and done it, so if you had such confidence in our centre midfield before the game i suspect it was partially blind faith in Ferguson's decisions.

Personally, i was very happy yesterday, as it was the first time i've seen such an effective central midfield pair performance with out either Giggs or Scholes in there. Fletcher and Anderson complimented each other perfectly imo. They should be our first choice, and I hope they get lots of game time together so they can strengthen their partnership and prove themselves as a pair. My one doubt about Anderson is whether he will have the desire and courage to keep fighting and playing for the full 90 every game like he, more or less, did yesterday. Hopefully he does.

I think Anderson knows he had a bad start to the season, and I think the fact he asked to play in the reserves over one of the international breaks (against Bolton I think) shows he has the attitude and desire to do better and prove himself. Hopefully it continues.

its a sick sad fact but every team has their section of absolute scumbag fans, who react, i dont know whether it is heat of the moment or premeditated, and tbh i dont care! i really hope the utd "fan" who threw the coin gets a lifetime ban....this scumbaggery (yes thats a word :p) really marred what was a brilliant game of football!

Yup, it was good to see him picking himself up and asking to play in that reserves game. It was also good to see how readily Fergie rewarded him.

I did think about it. City scored and by the original posters stats 1 minute and 6 seconds where added on into injury time for the celebration. When Utd scored in injury time the ref added on 16 seconds after play restarted.

"after play restarted" That's the point. He added 4 minutes (initially) after play restarted from city's goal which was NOT 90:00. If your going to claim he didn't add on time for Owen's goal he should have blown full time about 8 seconds into the celebration!

Yes, that one United fan threw a coin and one United fan ran onto the pitch of course all united fans are coin throwers and pitch encroachers... Fact is, on a number of occasions the whole city end (or at least 90% of it) were singing a relatively fresh Munich chant. That or maybe they thought they were clapping along to blue moon at a completely different beat...

are people not reading the sensible posts? RE: fan trouble.

    you'll always get a few w*nkers.

those w*nkers will stoop to any level, be it chanting offensive sh*te or throwing coins at people.

    every club has them.

don't paint everyone the same way, while thinking your own club doesn't have some of the same sorts of fans.

it makes you look a bit foolish tbh.

chanting that stuff is sick, but throwing stuff at players is just as yobbish.

No because you can't say it was the majority either.

1000 fans can make a hell of a lot of noise with a chant, and that's not a majority of the City fans who were there yesterday.

It's fantastic irony that on one hand you can say it's a fact that all/the majority of City fans were at the Munich chants yet you were convinced it was only one coin throwing United fan.

Were you there? Of course it is impossible to gauge how many fans were singing it, but the MAJORITY were taking part in the chant (at the very least) as the whole city end were clapping along to it.

Fantastic irony my arse. Are you saying that the majority of 72000 united fans threw coins. Because I am saying that the majority of the 3000 city fans were taking part in the Munich chants.

You really need to stop wallowing in that - get over it and move on. Stop wearing something that happened 50 years ago as if it's some kind of badge of honour. It's not. It was a terrible tragedy and should not be used as an excuse to taunt anyone.

Thats how many I estimated were taking part in the song when I looked over at them singing it. Thats right, its an estimate, a guess, a rough figure. I'm confident that it close to the actual figure. Who needs figures when you have to listen to that ****e and see the majority of the City end enjoying themselves taking part in it.

There is no excusing any United fan or fans throwing coins or running onto the pitch. These are things that we would all like to see an end to. But when we have to listen to this type of ****e, year in year out when United play City it gets infuriating to say the least. Particularly when they get away with it every time, and then go and pat themselves on the back when they actually do stay silent for 60 seconds...

Fair enough. You try telling a Liverpool fan to stop wallowing over Hillsborough, a Celtic fan to stop wallowing over the Famine song, a Juventus fan over Heysel...

Fact is, regardless of who you support, or who your opposition is, you shouldn't have to listen to this kind of ****e at a football match. Its tasteless and incites trouble.

I won't make any excuses for the fans who sing those songs. They are stupid and disrespectful and I've never/would never take part in them myself.

However, I'm not gonna listen to someone slate City fans as a collective, in the same way I'm sure you would speak up for your own if the shoe was on the other foot.

    No problem.

I'm not so stupid to say that all City fans in all walks of life are responsible for these songs, however the majority in the City end yesterday took the piss. The annoying thing is, they get away with it, year in year out.

Was at the game, amazing! City better team first half, should have been in front through Tevez. United upped it second half, deserved their win in the end. Giggs, Given, Tevez, Fletcher and Rooney all stood out for me. Evra and de Jong to a lesser extent.

Great weekend, I got lifted up by complete strangers in the stand when Owen scored. Place went mad. The song for Tevez was funny, although I didnt catch all the lyrics.

If stories about players giving generously invite cynicism, the one about Craig Bellamy setting up a €820,000 academy in Sierra Leone was met with disbelief.

The West Ham striker, previously best-known for a string of controversial incidents at both football clubs and nightclubs, is to invest €820,000 of his own money into creating an entire football structure in the benighted west African nation.
Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has made a financial donation to help Wrexham's fight against relegation.

The money, described by Wrexham as "very generous", enabled the club to sign three loan players as they seek to avoid dropping into the Conference.

Wrexham are currently in the League Two relegation zone with eight games to go.

"Being a proud Welshman, I feel it's important that Wrexham retain their place in The Football League and I hope this gesture can help," said Bellamy.

"I have a lot of friends playing at the club and have enjoyed some memorable times at The Racecourse, especially when I was given the captain's armband for my country [last November].

He will never mess with Sir Alex Ferguson again for sure, no more silly comments and stupid posters, he has learned his lesson the hard way.
