Juvenile Caution?

Hey boards members, im a first time poster and was just wondering about something that happened during the summer with my friends.
We had just finished Transition Year and we had a graduation ceremony and the like.

Anyway afterwards we (10 of the lads) went to a friends farm camping,
and naturally being young lads we had a few cans.

After a while when everyone was abit merry and we were quite loud.
Someone then rang the gardai with a noise complaint.
Gardai arrive and tell us all to come out of our tents, shout at us, kick tents, scare us in general, take our details then bring us home.

Next day our parents get a call saying were getting a juvenile caution etc
Now i know a caution is nothing and im not trying to get it taken away or anything but were they within the law to give us a caution seeing as we were on private land with the landowners permission in tents, which legally are dwellings.

Any thought on this would be appreciated.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section
