How was it in Galway? Anyone have a setlist?

They were absolutely fantastic in Galway last night! Wonderful balance between old and new stuff, and great energy-enough to keep everyone happy, including old purists like myself. Wish I'd gotten tickets for tonight as well...

Very impressed with the venue alright. Good set up, held the crowd well, the sound was good and it was slap bang next to work where i can park my car!

    Radisson - Live Lounge

The band sounded great on Saturday and I was well impressed with the venue. I was disappointed with them (set list and sound) at EP a few years ago and this was miles better but I was still disheartened that they didn't play a few more tracks from Good news & We Were Dead...

I hate to be one of those people that complains when they don't play their biggest song but seriously... No Float On?? If it wasn't for that song they wouldn't be playing this amount of sold out gigs on Irish shores.

*Awaits attack from hardcore MM fans*

I would consider myself a big enough MM fan, but I agree about float on... That said great gig on Saturday. Was it the longest sound check ever though between Frightened Rabbit and MM coming on... at least 45 mins. Brilliant set though, great sound. Roll on Tuesday nights gig:)

By the way, Frightened Rabbit were brilliant too!

Heading to see them tonight, excited after these reports! What time did Modest Mouse start their set?

They came on at 10:20 on saturday night

I'd say they'll be on about 9-9:15 tonight, seems to be the norm for the academy

Was thinking about 9-9.30 myself, 10.20 seems a bit late to me.

Totally agree with all of the above. Great gig but Float On and Dance Hall not featuring was a big disappointment... Strange that I went to see MM live yet the only time I heard Float On was upstairs in Kelly's after... Oh the shame!

Thats when they came on in Galway. They sound check and set up took a good bit of time from when FR finished.

Really it seems that they only play Float On sometimes, so it's pot luck whether you get it or not.

Is Johnny Marr playing with them at the moment?

    Grumble grumble..."real fans"...grumble moan..."the essence of their sound"..."screw Johnny Marr"....etc etc

Though seriously, it was a dream of a setlist for the hardcore crew. A good number of tunes from The Moon and Antarctica, which is definitely their best album for me, and the place just went wild for Doin' the Cockroach. I kinda got the sense in the new EP that Brock is very ambivalent, bordering on remorseful, about their recent pop success. They might be trying to step back from it a little, and a mini-tour of the British Isles might be further proof of this.

That's what I thought alright. The Metro cited him as a 'permanent fixture' in Modest Mouse today.

Is he fcuk.. he was half permanent for the time, deciding that since he was up to nowt else he may as well tour the album he co-wrote and recorded with the band. They took too long to do anything else that he moved on to a more proper permanent postition in the Cribs. He'll be doing the next album with them so he'll be around them a while yet.

Overall last night was a decent gig, would have liked to hear Spitting Venom but them's the breaks. Also thought that alot of the people there were even more assholish than normal. Why oh why do you barge right up the front and then have chat with your friends before going to the bar. Oh but they played float on for you so don't worry... Grr / end rant.

Drives me nuts too, was stood beside a load of blokes who went mental for dashboard and float on and for most of the rest stood in my way chatting.

Wouldn't say it was as good as electric picnic as few years back but then again I had a wee bit more booze on board at EP

Ah yes the 'I only know two songs and so will talk loudly during everything that isn't those two songs' gig attendees. Lovely chaps.

Got stuck right beside some of them at Grizzly Bear who as I predicted sang along loudly to 'While You Wait For The Others' after talking through pretty much everything else.

Still and all though, I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully all the really annoying folks went last night. :)

    That's where you're wrong!
    I'll be there tonight....MWWWWAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I only know about 3 MM songs but looking forward to the gig nonetheless.

Tonight's gig needs more people to show up and shout "Where's Johnny Marr?" and then go get pissed in protest and shove their way up to the front;) Haha

    Nah.

What bothers me about not knowing songs at a gig, and this included MM's saturday night gig - is when all the songs you don't know are 5 or 6+ minutes long. I own 4 of their albums, 5 if you now include the last release which I only got to pick up at the gig but I still didn't know a good 1/3 or a bit more of the set which is annoying (for me). Still enjoyed it but still wanted a little more from it too. I'd be happy to sacrifice float on to hear a few other favourites from GNFPWLBN or WWDBTSS but that didn't happen either.

I don't mind going to a band I like and not knowing a lot of what they play. Of course I don't listen to the stuff I don't know and just yammer to my friends, take photos of them and completely ignore the band until they play their last single at which point I shout "I f*cking love this one!" and proceed to spill beer all over everyone while I jump around like some manner of parasite-ridden monkey for the duration of the song. Of course once it's over I go back to yakking on to my friends in front of people who are actually there to see the band and couldn't care less if Sharon got off with Bradley at the club last night.

Get to the bar if you want to chat.

Such a great gig. I was at the very centre on the rail. Gravity Rides Everything was a great start and that bassline in Tiny Cities Made of Ashes really did it for me. Other highlights were Dashboard, Float On, The View and 3rd Planet. I really want to go again to tonight's one.

Went to the gig in Galway on Saturday night, and then drove over to Dublin last night for the second gig in the Academy.

I thought Saturday night was mediocre, the set was a bit choppy, the band didn't seem too into it, and I was never at a gig where so many a**holes decided to come along and talk through the entire thing.

Which makes me all the happier I went to Dublin last night, because they were unbelievably good. A much better set-list, much more up-tempo, and I nearly blacked out when they played Neverending Math Equation, absolutely love the song.

The crowd was actually interested in the music, other than one clown near me constantly shouting at Isaac Brock to play Teeth Like God's Shoeshine.

The only minor criticism I'd have, and it was the same on Saturday night, is that they take too long between the end of their set and the encore, they lose the energy of the crowd.

But other than that slight quibble, a fantastic gig. Listened to the Lonesome Crowded West on the car stereo on the way home, and fell into bed in Galway at 2 in the morning feeling exuberant. Good times.

Loved the gig last night. It was my first time seeing them and I wasn't disappointed. Satin in a Coffin as a starter! Great stuff. The crowd seemed really into it and pretty good, although someone on thumped is complaining about a fight in the balcony, didn't see anything like that myself.

They changed the setlist at one point, Isaac Brock leaned over and said something to the others "let's play/let's not play" - couldn't make it out. But they definitely skipped or added something in at that point. It was right before Dashboard. I'm curious as to what it was.

I was a bit disappointed with Frightened Rabbit. I know they only had a support slot and while they were decent when I saw them before they were much better.

Not a massive fan, went to the gig on Saturday in Galway. While it was better than sitting in the pub for the evening, I wasn't overly impressed the set list. I did enjoy it but I would have been much happier to have seen them on Sunday or in Dublin having looked at the set lists.

Was at the Belfast gig last night ... Amazing show!
Crowd were great, even for Frightened Rabbit (they mentioned the Dublin crowds were less into it)
As for MM, absolutely brilliant - of course the songs from We Were Dead... went down best, but everyone was well into all the songs.
Will go back to Mandela Hall again - great set-up, no queues at the bars, easy to get out for a smoke, easy to get parked right beside the venue, free access to the balcony, great sound, and a top crowd (mostly students) well up for it,even on a Wednesday night

Frightened Rabbit just give mouth service to where ever they are case they told us that we were the best crowd yada yada.
