I believe membership of the Eurozone had a lot to do with the differences between Iceland and Ireland.
Thats about it I think.

Yeah Iceland are bankrupt, Ireland is bankrupt and the EU are bailing us out.

That's the difference.

As far as I know their main banks failed and were nationalised and are still under state ownership.
