Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd be the first to admit that things haven't exactly gone according to plan under Jeff, but does he really think that throwing in the towel now was in the best interests of both him and the club?

I saw Jeff Kenna on a flight to Birmingham on Sunday morning. Has he something lined up in England? It was the day of the Birmingham City V Aston Villa Match

open to correction on this, but AFAIK he still lived in England while managing Pats and commuted over and back

Jump before push. Like everyone at Pats, he was on a one year contract and I couldn't have seen Sadlier renewing in December.

He deserved to go. Pats are much better than where they are. Players like Harris, Guy and Quigley should not be in the position they are in.

This kind of stuff gets said all the time. "Too good to go down." and other such bull****. The players have not performed well in the league and that's why they're in the position they're in.

    Doolin to replace him?

Could do a lot worse than getting him back too.

Ah I never said the players were too good to go down, just said they shouldn't be in the position they're in!

He wasn't gotten rid of, he left. He wasn't happy with the cut-backs that were implemented at the end of last season.

FFS, that's our guaranteed 3 points in jeopardy now, delighted for him though.

Ah not really, was on the cards

I've a funny feeling that he could'nt handle the possibility of losing to United for the fourth time this season and possibly recieving the sack after playing the club he left in search of a league title for. Cowardly resignation by him, he was believing in his own hype.

    Statement from Kenna:
    Jeff Kenna wrote:
I’d like to thank the board, the fans and the players for their support throughout what has been a very difficult season for everyone.

The season has certainly had its’ ups and downs, with the European results the obvious highlight for me personally.

I have given my all to the job since my appointment but I believe now is the right time to leave the club.

It hasn’t been an easy decision for me but I look forward to taking on a fresh challenge in the game.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience at St Pat’s and would like to wish everyone connected to the club the very best of luck for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Strange day to do it, hopefully for the best.

    Cheers for the effort.

i never really took to Jeff but in his defence, he couldn't have had any worse luck with injuries this season. I think the amount of booing on Tuesday touched a nerve, i still don't get why any manager would jump the morning of a trip to an away match (even if he was afraid of losing to his old team again!). . .strange

thanks for the effort Jeff (i still laugh at his post match "comments" after the game in Russia :D)

He must have something already lined up because he's on this mornings flight to Birmingham. A few lads were taking the piss out of him. :D

Pete Mahon appointed for the rest of the season:
St Patrick’s Athletic would like to announce the appointment of Pete Mahon as manager of the first-team for the remainder of the 2009 season.

Maurice O'Driscoll will continue in his role as caretaker manager for this evening’s Setanta Sports Cup fixture against Derry City.

Pete will begin in his new role from tomorrow.

“I’m delighted to have a man of Pete’s experience in charge of the team at this point in the season.

Hopefully he can make an immediate impact, beginning with this Friday’s game at home against Cork City”, said the club’s CEO, Richard Sadlier.

Happy enough with that appointment myself - should at least steady the ship a little.

Unlucky Pats, Mahon is lost managing anyone over 20. Dont want Pats to go down but might be worth a few quid on them being relegated at this stage.

The likes of Gavin, Ryan won't respect him IMO. He needs to make those kind of players work harder because they've been too comfortable at Pats all year. Gavin in particular has become one lazy b*llocks. Mahon will end up getting rid of them rather than motivating them I think.
