VRT and road tax on pickups

I am thinking of buying a used pick-up truck for use on my farm, but am unclear about the tax situation -- both the annual road tax and the VRT.

I have been reading as much as I can of the material on the revenue website, as well as many other threads here, but I'm still a bit confused. I know that there has been a clampdown on the use of commercialised SUVs for private purposes (and in particular on some rule-bending conversions), but I'm unsure where this leaves a small farmer looking to buy a pick-up solely for agricultural use -- the pickup will be used on the farm and for hauling stuff on and off it, and I have a car which I use for passenger purposes.

    So I have several questions:

    1) It appears that a crew-cab (aka "double-cab") pick-up -- i.e. one with 4 passenger doors and seats behind the driver -- will be taxed as a passenger car unless you meet several criteria of business use, which apply only to registered companies. Is this correct?

    2) Pickups seem to be cheaper in the UK, so I am considering importing one. Category C vehicles only attract a €50 VRT, but I am unclear whether Category C includes all pick-ups or only to those with a load bed longer than 2 metres. Can anyone clarify which pick-ups qualify for the €50 VRT?

    3) Do pick-ups qualify for the €288 road tax for light goods vehicles, or does some other rate apply?

    Thanks for any help! ;)

Apologies for semi-hijacking the thread, I went looking before I started my own one on a similar vein. OPs questions are ones that I was asking along with for a recommendation for insurance purposes.
I have my own car insured with my NCB attached to it and just want a pick up for finishing up around my house, trips to the dump and B&Q. Its only for a year or so after which I am going to sell it on and I have one lined up for less than 1k sterling but am getting it difficult to find any info online about the insuring of it or as OP asks the import and taxing of it. Anyone any suggestions or advice at all?

If you don't really need 4 seats in the Pick up, why not just go for a single cab, 2 seater? Avoids any of the issues mentioned above (except maybe commercial tax for private use) as it can only be classed as a commercial.
