With Freshers Week coming to a close today what did people think of it?
Is there anything you thought was top class or where there aspects that you'd want to change?

The various events that were going on seemed to be good but poor advertising IMO.

Yeah advertising was S***e, there was little to no advertising for events in the bar for Tuesday and Thursday.

I got nothing at all except a burger :(
Having said that it was a damn fine burger.

The one thing our college sucks at is advertising for anything. They make a big deal about all the balls that are held in Silence but never for any other events during the year. I haven't been in the college since 2007 and I'm only back this year and it's still the same regards advertising.

I suppose it's not up to the SU to advertise everything. The bar should do their own advertisements and not just in the bar either instead of waiting for the SU or someone else to do it.

    Went to the Hypnotist dude.

It was the exact same show as 2 years ago and 1 year ago. In saying that though, it's funny.

Eh, the free burgers went down well but I hate the way that they insist on having classes on through out Freshers week. Couldnt go to many of the events and completely missed the clubs and socs thingie in the MPC.

    Meh.

We should do what Trinity do and have one week with no classes for Freshers Week and then the following week start classes.
Much better idea seeing as new first years can socialise with their new classmates.
You can't exactly do that when a lecture is taking place.

Yeah advertising was very bad, noone really knew about the Christy Moore tribute on Tuesday. Short of covering the walls with posters.. I'v already mentioned it to the bar.

    Maybe it's a good thing that wasn't advertised. ;)

Is Christy Moore really worthy of a tribute?

    and why not have both?!
it could be split show entitled "christy corspe" or "cannibal moore" or some other variation. and it could be a BYOB party, that way everybodys a winner.

(this is yet another random boll0cky idea brought to you by me)

Or why not have "Christy Corpse". Oh how confused everyone will be.

"Who is Christy and why is his corpse playing in the bar" they will say.

Was it in Sky or Silence?

Was at sky , was the first time i was ever in the place and i have to say i was very impressed by it , I think its a great venue . The main problem with the college balls now is that the Thursday night crowd are going to silence regardless and i don't know how Luke is going to organise balls outside of the town without running at a loss.

When Rag week come around people give out that we havent got the same headline acts as some of the bigger Universities the problem here is that if more people supported the college balls then there would be more money in the KITTY for these acts.

The guys definitely deserve a big thumbs up for a great event. Just a shame they made a loss.

The problem is that a college ball usually costs more than a normal night out.

you have to buy a ticket which is usually more expensive then paying in normally and the drink is usually full price versus the 3 euro a drink or other promotions that do be on a regular night.

The SU really suffer from not having any on campus facilities, Maynooth SU own and run the college bar as well as having a place where they can hold full blown gigs as well as DJ sets.

DKIT really needs to have a bar run for the students by the students at the minimum, perhaps set up a fund and organise fund raising events over a few years to make something possible?

The Bar could be run by the SU , campbell catering run the bar for the college , and they have a new lease every year.

Also the ball drinks were 3euro also.

Nice to see the drinks were 3 euro.

What I was pissed off most about college balls last year is that they mostly occurred in Silence.

Silence on a Thursday night normally was cheaper then when a college ball was on in it so it didn't make sense.

The lease on the bar is something the SU should be given first refusal on maybe?

Did not many people head to the ball in sky or why did it end up making a loss?
