All traffic to and from the Hackettstown road are to take the new road not just those heading for Athy. Locals on the Palatine road side of the roundabout take the Pal road out to Friary lane and join the Dublin road opposite the golf club. There was big public notice about it in The Nationalist last week.

Actually it's an excellent time to close the road for works, it directs traffic heading for the ploughing away from a very busy and dangerous section of road which is particularily slippy in the wet. Don't forget there's a large secondary school there with poor footpaths and a pedestrian crossing, all sandwiched between two quite busy roundabouts. Not great to have lots of extra traffic pushing through.

If they left the road open and just put a sign up to divert the traffic on the new relief road I don't believe people would take the longer route even if it only adds a mere 5mins to overall journey time.

we dont know how easy we have it now! there is no traffic on the road for the sugar factory anymore and with all the roads widened and motorway in place drivers have never had it so good!
