Yeah, even allowing for the fact that they always edit these things to make the winner look as good as possible so as not to offend the viewer's sense of natural justice (Jim Rock in particular was given a totally different approach by the editing than the one he received in the heats), Dunne was clearly impressive (apart from the bizarre JT hand headsup). I guess one of the great things about poker is that on any given day a plucky amateur can defeat the more seasoned pros.

Quote from DP during presentation of the trophy " Congratulations on your 1st prize of twelve thousand euro sterling". Classic wp DP.

tbf he had received a bit of coaching from a 6 handed crapshoot specialist before this gig. Its also not like he is completely new to poker? I remember him playing the 2007 IPC in Citywest.

Good to see preparation rewarded. For the format, he was better than some of the "pros".

Played with him in the Jackpot once I think and he wasn't bad.

His bet sizing was pretty good for an amateur, but it does help to repeatedly flop nut hands.

yea he def didnt seem like he was new to the game anyway.. i'd say as a person he's obviously extremely competitive and has a massive desire to win.. thats most of the work in pokerz

Bernard seems like a really nice guy and it was good to see him win.
On the poker itself, of what was shown it seemed like he could hardly miss. In saying that, he pretty much maximised value for his hands, so well played.
Andy Black didn't seem to get the cards (or was outflopped) but still played the hands well. Pushing with Q10, 3 handed & short stacked was pretty standard.
But as he said himself, he called too quickly with the 77 heads up. Pretty unlucky to run into the overpair. If he can find a fold there it would be hard to see him losing.

Best move of the game was Bernard reraising Rory's bluff holding A3 TP no kicker.

I was thinking the same thing, wtf was that about?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,724 ✭✭✭nicnicnic

they ask you a load of questions in a pre interview, then cut some in through the show without showing the questions. Sure the must of asked Andy his greatest achievements in poker.

Dunne played the JK v A10 hand v Donnacha very well.

Normally I would say it was a bad move too but in the context of the game I thought is was pretty gutsy. I'm sure he knew he was good but thought Rory was pushing with a draw. If he could see his hand he could have given him some more rope.

Hate to see players stand up to put the jacket on before the last card is dealt. A form of showboating that is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36 SocialWarfare

It was quite annoying to listen to those commentators too, saying that Dunne played that great, Dunne played this great..........No he didn't he was just lucky, all he had was the better hand every time, it not like he made a great fold or bluff!

I just watched the final there. Ken rock was awful. How did he make it there.

And that DP lad. Jesus what an annoying twat he was. All in all Dunne did well and play his hands the best he could and won. :)

I've written to Paddypower regarding DP Fitzgerald hosting this show, he's awful and knows nothing about poker.

    I received this reply:

Thanks for your comments below, I have passed them on to the person looking after TV for the Irish Open 2010.

    Kind Regards

Probably pointless but dropping here a mail to show your disapproval for their choice in presenter may get one of us the gig... Personally I'd be happy to just get rid of him!
