Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i really don't think Leeds confidence would be dented too badly by a loss to Liverpool?!

True. If anything it may help them more especially if they play well regardless of the result.

The Reds XI in full is: Cavalieri, Degen, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Dossena, Aurelio, Spearing, Mascherano, Riera, Babel, Ngog.

Subs: Reina, Gerrard, Torres, Skrtel, Voronin, Plessis, Johnson.

You try figuring that formation. Riera behind Ngog?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,900 ✭✭✭Eire-Dearg

    Go on Babel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    that's a strong enough team & squad.

i'm looking forward to seeing both babel and n'gog in particular.

i'd have liked to see the likes of kelly (injured?), dalla valle and pacheco given some sort of chance.

stevie, nando and johnson, imo, should be given the night off duty.

    Babel behind him surely?

Is Dossena or Aurelio going to be full back? I guess the Doss but both can play midfield.

Aurelio is probably playing ahead of masch and behing Spearing

4-3-3 is what it looks like.

Similar to how we lined out against Pompey when Aurelio was in the centre.

    Ngog
    Riera
    Babel----
    Spearing
    Aurelio
    Masch
    Doss---Kyrgiakos---Carra---Degan
    Cav

That would be my guess anyway/

Geez Im shocked by the team and the bench.:eek::eek:

    I was miles off.

Clearly Rafa is taking the Carling Cup very seriously this year

I wonder if this might be because it's Leeds away and if we might see some of the reserve/fringe players if we draw easier opposition?

If it 4-2-3-1 formation may be

    Cavalieri
    Degen---Carragher---Kyrgiakos---Dossena
    Mascherano---Aurelio

    Babel
    Spearing
    Riera

    Ngog

Dossena and Aurelio could switch positions in that.

It might be a 4-3-3/4-3-2-1 as well

    Cavalieri
    Degen---Carragher---Kyrgiakos---Dossena
    ----Mascherano--Spearing --Aurelio

    Babel
    Riera

    Ngog

Subs: Reina, Gerrard, Torres, Skrtel, Voronin, Plessis, Johnson.

If things are going well then Voronin and Plessis are the likely subs.
If they aren't then the big guns are on the bench.
Very disappointing that Agger doesn't even feature on the bench.

    It could be 4-4-1-1

    Cavalieri
    Degen, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Dossena
    Babel, Spearing, Mascherano, Aurelio
    Riera
    Ngog.

I presume Agger isn't yet quite ready

Kelly is in Egypt at the U-20 World Cup with England.
Pacheco picked up an knock before the reserve game against Utd on Thursday. Would have been nice to have seen him on the bench.
LDV was never a realistic shout to make it when he hasn't been playing with the reserves so far this season.

Maybe we could see some of them in later rounds.

Rafa is giving nothing away on SS2

"we will play with eleven" :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,072 ✭✭✭✭event

Really really doubt that's the team

Don't think there's a chance in hell of Carra playing.

    ;)

ill not be placing my bets anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

whats the story with the "I live my life for the stars that shine" Liverpool banner. Is that the same oasis lyric that is on the T-Shirt Dub13 had?

Well my point of not betting until the teams were named was still correct, even if my underlying detail might have been a little spectacularly wrong.:p;)

Oh crap, Beckford knows what he needs to do.

Very disappointing that Agger doesn't even feature on the bench.

He had a late fitness test, I'm glad he's not being rushed back. Surprised to see Carra lead them out alright. He may not be playing well yet this season but he does play an awful lot of minutes for Liverpool, good pro.

I said it after the debrecen appearance.Babel is waaaay better on the right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,524 ✭✭✭joe123

    Ngog looking very lively.

    agreed.

he has a lot of crossing ability. and while his technique is still poor enough, his pace getting on the outside of defenders can allow him space to get crosses in.

you need better close control to come inside like he has to do on the left, because he would invariably run into traffic.

    while the stream is down,

spearing looking good, so is rieara, could be good for his form to get a good run out in this match, ngog is going to get a goal soon if not already...

goal disallowed for offside, bit harsh, i thought it was already over the line when becchio touched it

    I liked Degans early run.

just saw it now, clear goal as beckford dosnt get a touch

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The guy who prodded it in was offside, he should have left it go in on its own account,

The commentator just made a classic comparison error, saying Leeds were not playing like a team two divisions below Liverpool, if it were Pools first 11 then that would be a fair observation.

not when the ball was headed back in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭podge018

he was offside in that phase of play. Should have left it be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

both attackers looked level to me when the ball was headed , looked like it had already crossed the line before being prodded too. Bad decision , good goal disallowed

i would be inclined to agree, the goal should have stood.

again, not when it was headed back in, he was level

we are giving spearing an awful lot of room, our two central midfielders are sitting very deep

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,524 ✭✭✭joe123

great run by babel again. His pace alone lets him get past people on the outside. No more cutting inside the whole time running into a wall. Needs to work on his end ball though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,072 ✭✭✭✭event

some of snoddys passing and runs are pure quality.
he has played two 1-2's with becks and becchio that have been top class

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,024 ✭✭✭JokerD

Elland Road is a great sight tonight, we are leeds

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    Are you? Jolly good.

Dossena is giving Snodgrass way too much time and space, he has to get in on him immediately.

Yes we are, and we are marching on together!

    Bloody hell!

Dang, would have been a nice way to end the half, really would have annoyed Leeds too!

I can see why they are top of the division, some very nice composed footie. Liverpool look like an 11 that would haven't played together much, Dossena blegh, Degan did well I though and Babel apart from the lame shot. Ngog isn't exactly a powerful CF though.

great chance by riera, well saved by the keeper

happy enough at HT, we have limited liverpool to that one chance really.
havent had many ourselves but have had nice build up play
